BOP, SSIM, & Intake Manifold Spacers

I want to do some upgrades to my 3.5 swapped maxima and decided that the intake manifold would be a good place to start. Ordered a bop today but wanted to get some opinions on combining all three on a 3.5 swap.

I know that combining the bop and ssim will cause me to lose some tq in the lower rpms, but wouldnt adding the intake manifold spacers result in aleviating the loss of tq and essentially minimize the loss?

My goal is to make around 15-20whp. Do you guys think this is achievable or am I being a little too optimistic here?

A great first step is to let the engine breathe easier, i.e. intake/exhaust.

15-20 whp should be feasible from those mods.

Another member posted a dyno from just installing the BOP on his stock max (from tookrzy4u192's post)
Run 1, STOCK:
Max Power: 188.99 Max Torque: 209.30

Run 2, w/ BOP:
Max Power = 193.93 Max Torque: 211.52

spacers dyno run (from Ghozt's post)

V----NmexMAX's dyno runs on the SSIM

Thanks for the post. Im hoping for a little over 20 whp but Id be happy with 15 whp. The car already has an intake, exhaust and y pipe. As far as the ssim goes, any tips on how much material should be cut away on the shelf and also what are you guys using to cut the shelf out?

you wont make over 20whp on a BOP, SSIM and Spacers...
you may get around 7whp lol... SSIM doesnt add peak power nor does the spacers... so your biggest peak power adder is the BOP and the dyno just showed what those gains are... i will say the area under curve would get a decent boost and the area after peak wouldnt be so bad either i guess... but in total, maybe 7-10whp peak

After nmexmax's post, (the guru of nissans) im guessing that either ssim with spacers or bop with spacers is the way to go.

Rev limiter will eventually be extended, but wont be until the new 3.5 goes in. Ill just wait to do the ssim until everything gets done at once.

Alright, so I removed the upper+lower intake manifold along with the elbow and removed the vias. Took a look inside and it looks like the po started doing the ssim but only went about 1/4 of the way through and gave up. The shelf has only been removed up to the first upper runner on the intake manifold (looking in through the side where the vias is). Could this be the result of a po300 multiple cylinder misfire code? The misfire only occurs at idle and is present under normal driving and under wot.

Anyone?

That will not cause a p0300,
More then likely you have a small vacuum leak, Possibly didn't get a good seat between the manifolds, or over torqued one of the bolts causing a crack.
This happened to me when i installed my spacers, little bit of RVT around the crack and its good to go.

Also it sounds like that part of the shelf that is "missing" is just where the VIAS Assembly went, it took up about a quarter of the intake

if he is a 6mt which i hope.. then those are all good combo mods, he just wont gain as much as he thinks, plus i would like to know how will he extend his revs or tune

Yes, I know that there is a section of the shelf removed for the vias, but the po took a little more material out from that point and left it as is.

Grandhustle, im not a 6mt. Its a 3.5 swap in a 4th gen with a 5spd vlsd ae tranny. Car will be tuned eventually using an emanage ultimate.

Im just going to go ahead and do the ssim mod (since its been started), and sandblast the upper+lower intake manifold and elbow. Once thats done Ill order the spacers and call it a day.

What are your opinions on removing the shelf inside the elbow? Is it worth removing? Any pros/cons to doing this or has this not been done before?

What are you guys using to do the ssim mod? So far I've used a dremel with a metal bit to remove some of the shelf but its taken forever so far and still have a ways to go. Also, what are you guys using to get to the deeper spots in the manifold?

Sawz-all, then clean it up, take your time with various dremel and sanders, etc. End mill is better/faster, but in the end, to get the best results, IMO, you should really take the time and go in there and REALLY clean it up.

Some experts state that it is no necessary to do so, with testing done before, IMO not worth it.

Nmexmax thanks for the help. I ended up getting the shelf out from where the vias ends to the furthest side of the flange where the elbow bolts on to. Now im just having trouble getting removing the shelf from that point to the end of the manifold. Are people just using long blades on sawzalls or long drill bits or is there another trick to removing it?
