2 ohm's or 4 ohm's, what is this?....
i am looking at getting a sub and amp for my civic.
i want to get either this setup: ( better, but more expensive ) amp: https://www.onlinecarstereo.com/cara....asp?sku=12090 sub: https://www.onlinecarstereo.com/cara....asp?sku=10748 or this setup: ( good setup, less expensive ) amp: https://www.onlinecarstereo.com/cara....asp?sku=12091 sub: https://www.onlinecarstereo.com/cara....asp?sku=12511 this just depends on how much money i have to spend on the system, the second setup is cheaper, and is the one i am going for right now, but i am trying to see if i can get the better setup, maybe if i make my own box or something, i can afford it, i dunno. i just want some good bass for when i'm in the car, i dont care for that loud bass that can be heard for blocks away, thats why i'm going with just the one sub. now, both amps run at 150 watts at 4 ohm's and 300 watts at 2 ohm's. the subs have a RMS rating of 300 watts, so i figure i run the amp at 2 ohm's and get the neccesary 300 watts out of it, right? will that work, or will i just mess up the sub and amp like that? what is the difference at running the amp at 2 and 4 ohm's? because my budget is limited, i am going to install this myself, so i really dont want to get the wrong stuff, and do something wrong during install. thanks in advance. btw, i already have a pioneer deh-7400mp mp3/cd player, and soon to arrive cerwin vega HED 6.5" components for the fronts and same model coax 6.5" for the rears ( the speakers will run off of deck power ) |

Originally posted by bahmax The first sub the W6 you will only be able to run at a 3 ohm load, meaning your amp will put out somewhere in between the 2 ohm and 4 ohm rating. If you want a 2 ohm load you will want the dual 4 ohm option on the W3. Of those choices perhaps amp #1 and sub #2 would be best. But for the money, I think you can do better i dont know much about this stuff, like what goes together well, so i would really appreciate some help. i dont want to spend more than $500 on everything, that includes one amp, one sub, a box ( that i might make ) and the wiring. |

As far as running your components....do NOT run them off of radio power, it is not a clean enough signal to run components, and will cause distortion leading to blowing them. Most manufacturers will recommend strongly against doing this. --Don |
thats my current dillema, getting an amp for the components. they sound great right now, but lots of people, like yourself, have told me to get an amp, so i think i might do that first, like a 75 watts x 4 amp. then i'll work on getting the above sub and amp, thanks for the advice guys.

...ugh, i hate to be the Alpine lover on this board.
First amp is nice... but i wouldnt go with JL sub. I am the ex owner of 2 jl w3's...and yes they POUNDED, but for the SAME MONEY, i got TWICE the sub when i got Alpine Type R's. The Type R's are AMAZING...they are clean and they hit very hard...harder than the w3 i had... Just a thought, alpine amp with alpine sub, also looks good together  |
