What's the best Sub setup between these 2 options?
I have 2 Image Dynamics IDQ 12's in a sealed box. They are rated at 300W RMS a piece. I have them running in parallel off of a JBL BP600.1 amp, getting 150W a piece (4 Ohms). Would it sound better for me to run a single sub at 300W (the rated power for that sub) or 2 subs at 150W (Way below what the recommended RMS)? Also, how hard would it be for me to convert my existing sealed, 2 sub enclosure into a single encloseure? Wouldn't it just be a matter of sawing it down the middle and re-sealing the inside?

With that amp, you are getting 300W @ 4 ohm and 600W @ 2 and 1 ohm. If you have that amp running in parallel, you should be giving the 2 subs 600W. Which is 300W per sub. You will be fine running the 2 12's w/ that amp. As for the box, I would reccomend them staying in there own chamber.

Unless the subs are 2 ohm each, or dual 4 ohm. Cutting it down the middle would work. But your new enclosures would be smaller. The 3/4 inch walls that you insert in each half would decrease the internal volume a smidge.

if you have a sealed box with 2 subs in it...it should already be seperated into 2 chambers...mine is anyway...i dont know what kinda ghetto box u got rigged up

Ported = much larger box!!!
Nore....just build your own box man, find the recommended box size for your sub and build it....and build it dual chambered. Building your own box is BY FAR cheaper, not TOO hard, just leave yourself a couple hours, and they are made with WAY MORE quality. Check out my homepage, that sub thats there, my IDMAX, the box that it is in I built, took about 3 hours from start to finish. Just use 3/4 MDF, some drywall screws to hold the box together while the liquid nails sets, thats the main thing here, letting that stuff set, and just put a bead around the inside of the box and spread it out and it forms a GREAT seal. Trust me, building your own box is much more fun and better. |
I will try to build me a box
