should i buy two 12's or one 15?

I agree, 2 12's is the way to go...

Personally...in my next car..."praying to get in an accident so I have a reason for a new car" I am gonna go with 4 10's I think...or possibly only 3 10's I love the bass a 10 sub can put out

 

1 10" is all you need.

everyone just recommended dont get the 15....you cant even reply with the above quote, it doesn't make any sense.

dont get a 15 get a JL audio 13w7 its the same size as a 15 but sounds better

 

If I had to choose between those two options I would get one 15. Similar output to two 12's. Smaller overall enclosure dimensions. More efficient, moves almost as much air with half the RMS power. And most 15's can go a few hertz lower than their same model 12.

 

Really, 1 12" sub will do the job, provided it can handle the wattage of, lets say, 300W or so. JL Audio subs will pound with at least 100W alone.

 

1 15" MTX RFL. Then you'll be one bad ***. haha. By the way, does anyone know if the altenator in the maxima can support the power needed by the RFL (I heard of people in competition running 4 8100 D amps; one for each coil or something like that --- i just remember 4 amps for one sub --- it sounds crazy, does anyone know what I'm talking about?)

Having 6000 watts RMS available and using it musically are totally different. You can push - for example only - a brahma to > 28 mm excursion with under 1000 watts. Beyond X-max, there will be no increase in musical volume, only distortion.

Seriously, a single 15 can nearly match a pair of twelves with half the power. If you have a pair of twelve's and you decide to use the max RMS power of 1200 watts, you will be limited by the mechanical limits of the driver. Now do the same thing with a single 15. Total 1200 watts RMS. You are still limited by the drivers mechanical limit. But with the 15, you are displaceing, for most 12/15 comparisons, 60% more air. So a single 15 will move generally speaking about 80% as much air as a pair of 12's. With the limiting factor being the power it takes to reach the mechanical limit of the suspension. Determining how much power is all relative to the enclosure.

Using the proper power and enclosure a pair of twelves will only slightly out - displace a sinlge fifteen.
