What is the max surface area able to put in a rear deck. how many 12's, 10's or 8's respectively will fit in a 3 gen rear deck? What other modifications would need to be made aside from cutting the metal, making a replacement rear deck and a box.

If max surface area is the only goal I would use a pair or trio of kicker square 12's. But I don't have a third gen and can't measure. I suggest getting a tape measure and doing the math yourself. If that seems difficult, don't go one step further than this post.

What you don't realize is that I have installed three 12's in the rear deck of a 4th gen. That's why I don't want to guess at what may or may not fit in a 3rd gen.

Personally-if you put subs in your rear deck...your asking for attention...It just attracts thieves...I'd think 2 before you do this..or if you do this...maybe a nice cover to go over them...?

Even with legal level tint they are easy to cover. If you advertise what you have available it will be known no matter where it is.
