do i need cap??

im running alpine amps and type r's through my stock bose headunit...sounds great but my amps are not constantly running at 14.1volts they dip down all the way to 12volts alot of time and stay around 13volts....now im ujst running a 300watt rms amp and im thinking i dont need a cap but do i? also maybe its cuz im runnign a 4guage power wire and 8 guage grond wire i dont kno any suggestions?

Grounding issues could cause such a problem (if your headlights don't dim but the amp's voltage drops 'n stuff, it could indicate a wiring problem on the amp side, power or ground)
Where are you getting those voltage measurements BTW?

First of all, do you have a sub? If so, which one, and what are you powering it with? Second, why are you running a a ground wire that isn't the same gauge as the power? How long is the gound wire? It should be as short as possible. These are just some of the problems, not necessarily related to your voltage drop.

Some things you should test are your battery and alternator. Is your battery in good shape? Has it been asbused from cycling? Is it sulfated? Is your alternator putting out enough amperage/voltage to charge your battery adequately?

I know Alpine amps VERY well. Trust me, you do not need a capicitor for this amp. It definetly wouldn't hurt. But you are by no means doing harm by not using one. The amp is very efficient and is not that big yet.

The only concern I have is, the stock electrical system doesn't like to idle too low. So if you have a manual, make sure to raise the idle a bit to about 750rpm, as opposed to the 600rpm. If you have an auto, I wouldn't worry about it at all.
