playing CD-R's on BOSE stero
 

Hey guys,
I have noticed my BOSE stero sometimes gives me cd error in the middle of songs when playing CD-R's. Does anyone else get this problem or is m cd player going bad?

Any general brand of cd's seem to work better? I think i have the staple brand CD-R's....

I have not actually tried in my Bose, but when I had a Sony in another car...TDK brand seemed to work the best. Some of the "house" brands would work, but sometimes take a while to load.
Try it out and see how it works. TDK always has good rebates on cd-Rs through like Target and Best Buy and Circuit City. I just bought a pack of 50 for $2.99 after the rebates. That is less than 6 cents per cd.

Get a CD Laser Cleaner, or try the Imation CD-R's

The green Imations I have don't work very well. The only ones I've found to work is :sprint: TDK. Grab yourself a pack.

All cd-r's work for my car, You guys need a lens clean or something, The only reason I get CD-Error is because the cd is so scratched up

I think the speed the CD is burnt at has something to do with it. If you burn it at a high speed...it seems the cd player needs to be more sensitive or something...I am gonna try burning some with a lower speed....currnetly i burn em at 40X. gonna try 10X or something...

The staples cheapo brand have worked great for me with my Bose system. I burn on full blast also.

I've heard somewhere that the thickness of the disk and keep it from playing also. I guess this would really depend on if you put cd labels on your cd's also.

you need to burn them correctly in the right format or the songs wont play. use windows media player. test the cd's in a diffrent player and see if the same thing happens or not. ive never had nay problems with my bose cd player. i think any brand of cd works good as long as u burn it in the right file format. i use HP cd's and memorex. but i know 1 thing, stay away from MAXELL cdr's

The lasers in OEM stereos are much more sensitive. If it is out of alignment at all, it will have problems playing CD-Rs. This is a blanket problem with OEM stereos. They will have an easier time playing higher quality CD-Rs, but if it continues to go out of alignment, then even the higher quality CD-Rs won't play, and eventually stamped CDs won't play either.

If you are under warranty, you can try to get them to replace it. If the stereo was not advertised as being able to play CD-Rs, then don't tell them you are having trouble playing CD-Rs, tell them you are having trouble with all CDs. If you say the word CD-R, they will say "Sorry, it doesn't play CD-Rs, and you could damage it further by trying, in which case we cannot replace the unit under warranty." Or some such BS.

You're other option is to spend $200 on an aftermarket unit that will play CD-R/CD-RW all day long as well as mp3s :thumbsup:

make sure you close the cd when finished.

If you want to consider aftermarket head units, the ALPINE brand is the most forgiving on CD-R disk quality.

From my experience and that of other people I know, SONY head units are the least forgiving of CD-R disk quality.

Mitsui CD-R's are supposed to be some of the best. They are more expensive. Somewhere around 60 cents per CD or so. I had a cd player, an Alpine CDA-7949 hooked up with fiberoptic cables to an Alpine PXA-H600 processor. I had a lot of problems reading many burned cd's. This is why I finally bought some Mitsui CD-R's and it was able to play every one that I burned. I now have a Alpine CDA-7998, I do not have any problems with this headunit. I wish I would have kept my previous set up though, better sound due to the Burr Brown DA converters.

OEM HU's never do good with reading cdr's.. Due to the laser lens having to work to hard, and if yur HU is alittle old you can bet your *** its going to go out pretty soon or already hasn't. My tips would be to try and clean it or get the laser lens repaired. ( www.carstereohelp.com )
