need help installing 6.5's

im installing cdt's in my 2k2 maxima and im having a problem. i have the panel off and the speaker is too deep. which is fine because i have a 1" spacer kit. the problem is that the spacer kit does not line up to the holes in the door. how should i cut through the metal to make holes for the spacer kit?

can u just make new holes on the spacers?

no because the door shape is actually a slight oval. so we drilled holes into the door. but i still need to find the crossovers. im guessing they are behind the h/u? because if they are not then its a 6 channel h/u which ive never seen before.

If you have the Bose, then you should know that there is no OEM crossover outside of a single electrolytic cap mounted at the tweeter in the A-Pillar. The tweeter get's its feed from the same lines going to the woofers in the front doors.

It is my distinct impression that the non-bose uses full range speakers in the door. Hence there are no crossovers. When you upgrade with your system with new drivers, you will most likely use separate tweeters and woofers (as opposed to a single full range driver) and for that reason you will then have to place a crossover in the signal path to split the signal into the parts that are most appropriate for each the tweeter and the woofer.

Your factory's tweeters are capped. There are no crossovers in the car

no...HU to xover...the xover should have 2 openings...1 goes to tweeter, other goes to woofer...so single wire from HU to xover, then 2 sets of wires to each speaker. that's how it works. i mounted my xovers in the trunk. yes i know it's a lot, but that's where i chose to mount it. you can moun them wherever. under the dash? inside the center console, if there is space?

depending on how big the xover is, a good place to put them is behind the kickpanel. I was able to fit my JL 650CSi crossovers in there, and those things are HUGE.

Plus the closer the xover is to the speakers, the less speaker wire you use up.

Just don't put the xover IN the door.
