CD player is ruining my CD's

Lately I've been playing CD's in my Max, esp. my mixed CD's. They seem to play fine, but when I play them in my Jeep, some of the tracks skip. I store all my CD's in a case so there's little risk of them scratching. I have the midlevel CD/Cass. HU and it's the original one since '98. Is it time to replace the HU b/c of this?

are the cd's in a book or actual plastic case. because they can rub together in the book. and once the top is scratched then its over. no repair possible.

Look at the CDs. Are they scratched? If you're playing them in the Max and they don't skip, but skip in the Jeep, then it sounds like the Jeep player is just more sensitive to skipping...as opposed to the Max player scratching actually them. What makes you think the player is doing this?
