SML's 2004 Radar Detector Test

It's finally out, though not nearly as comprehensive as last years:

Not much of a test of laser jammers this year, they just say that the Blinder M-20 blocks all guns at 1000 and 500 feet.

All in all a pretty good test. It looks like Escort has finally pulled abreast of Valentine on sensetivity. It's unfortunate that they didn't mention the fact that the Spectre III test was flawed. It reported the Escort to be invisible, but in truth the Spectre unit overheated and went into shut down mode according to Radarbusters.com. If the unit get's above 70f it shuts down and goes into protection mode. It was almost 100 degress out during the tests.

I still find the V1 to be of better build quality and more desireable feature set. The X50 doesn't feel as solidly built because of it's cheap plastics. I live in Virginia and the Concealed display is a must have since they are illegal to operate here. It would be extremely difficult to live without the directional arrows after having them, but all this aside, if Escort offered a concealed display, I wouldn't have hesitated to buy it over my V1. The only other drawback I can see regarding the X50 is it's size. It's way too long to put it high in the windshield like I can with the V1. With the V1 I was able to fit it behind my sunglass holder with only the very bottom showing and the rear facing radar. Maybe Mike Valentine will finally lower his prices. Gotta love competition!
