What's the general consensus?
I'm thinking of getting 2 Type-R 12's (RMS 300) but am not sure how to power them. I don't have an amp, so i'll have to go out and buy a new/used one. I've got about $500 or so to play with, with that being said;
1. Should i look for a mono amp to power both the subs? or 2. Should i look for a 2 channel with about 300+ per channel? or 3. Do i even need to get a amp that powerful, or do i need more? Also, they are 4 Ohms + 4 Ohms.....what does that mean? Alpine also have 2 Ohms + 2 Ohms, should i get those? Here's the link Thanks guys, i really appreciate the info! |
a good 600-800rms class d mono should do them fine-1-4ohm stable- I would get the DVC4's

Just my ideas..
Find a used Kicker ZR600 or XS50 for $100-$250 and spend the rest on other goodies; these amps would destroy those two speakers at anything over 3/4 gain, so you can use them at 1/2 gain...less heat, longer life, cleaner power w/ more headroom...or a JL 500.1..flexible, new for <$500, though not quite as clean as the Class AB ZR 600 or the Class A XS50.......My ZR600 came with a bench tested birth certificate running peak 1387 wattsX1 @2.66 ohms, RMS @4ohms 922 X1 and 1,043X1 @2.66 w/12.6 volts input. They're clean, cheap, tough, flexible and highly uderrated. I pushed 3 10 W6s (old model) at 2/3 gain so hard it cracked my windshield and knocked off my mirror.
