tints have nothing to do with the reception

there's a thread that discusses this problem (which I also have) in the 5th gen forum

2K3MAX2NV 06-06-2005 01:26 PM

yea the rear window is tinted but I dont think that is the problem, like don says I think the wiring wasnt done correctly but I dont have a clue about that stuff

Komax 06-09-2005 03:09 PM

i just fixed this problem. i tied the yellow wire (12volt), blue wires (power antenna) and ground together and now everything works great! i get reception just like with my stock head unit!

btw, i have a Pioneer deh-4700mp.

tint DOES affect your reception if your window is tinted with HP TINT

Actually unless you tint the OUTside of your window, thats incorrect.

Don, if this kid knew anything he would know that in the Metra harness for 95+ Nissans the Black "ground" wire doesnt exist on the stock side of the harness, hense wont do a thing if its powered. Ill also bet he doesn't know that the stock antenna grounds the radio.

Very true Ant, but in light of the situation, he passes this info along to someone else (maybe different car) who actually connects power and ground together ....... :rotz: :nono:

Flame = what happens when you put power and ground together...

Back to the question at hand...

I had this same reception problem when switching to my Alpine HU. Through talking with a local installer and with Don, I learned that the problem lies in the Nissan antenna. It's actually a good antenna, but ONLY for the stock HU. The stock HU is tuned to work properly with the window antenna. Aftermarket HUs are not designed specifically for this kind of antenna, so they get nearly NO reception. The little 2-1 pin adapter doesn't do crap, basically.

The only solution to this problem is to install an antenna somewhere on your car. I've gotten to the point where I really want the ability to listen to the radio, even though I won't do it much. I've decided to look into getting an antenna like the current VWs or corollas. (The short black thing that sticks up at the rear of the roof.) Those don't look too bad, IMHO.

um... i have an aftermarket pioneer radio, at first i had the same problem wit the reception however all you need to do is connect all the blue wires together because one of them is your amp wire for speakers one is the antenna wire, now u connect both those wires with your blue wire coming from the headunit you will have great reception. I believe this will help you in the problem here. Don't connect any constant 12v (yellow wire) to your blue (antenna/remote) this isn't nessecary to amplify your antenna to have good reception.

Komax 06-14-2005 09:19 PM

Correction on my part. As per the Schosche instructions, it's all the blue wires with the 12 volt. I DID NOT twist the ground...that was a typo above. I grounded the proper wires via the antenna adapter and just one more the chassis.

And for a moderator or whatever doofus you are, "Don", you should know better that EVEN if wrong wires were connected, that's why there is something called "fuses". I dare you to ban me. Arrogance is no charm my friend.

Your comments of arrogance suit you quite well, with your name calling and attempts at threats. Please dont "dare" me to ban you, ask around I am one of the most leanient Mods here and I dont ban much, but I also wont hesitate for just cause.

slickrick 06-14-2005 09:52 PM

Act your age..... you were wrong, take it like a man.

Komax 06-15-2005 06:33 AM

it's all good, i forgive you "Don"

Dohcser 06-15-2005 08:50 AM

Komax for a person of your age you don't act it. How could you make a TYPO when you clearly state to tie it to "ground". What did you fat finger the whole word "ground"? Anyway like Manny said be a man admit your ignorance and move on.

ummm YOU DO NOT CONNECT IT TO THE YELLOW WIRE. It connects to the power antenna wire from the radio harness to the aftermarket harness.

If its connected to yellow, that means your antenna has power ALL the time. If it's connected to the power antenna wire, it only gets power when the AM/FM is being used.

 this keeps getting better...
