Wiring relay to turn on amp and accessories
After googling and looking through pages of threads on here, I'm a little confused as to how to hook up a relay to turn on my new amp and accessories (two fans, possibly a light or two). I know you shouldn't just use the remote turn on lead from the head unit to turn everything on, instead use a SPDT relay.
From what I read, terminal 85 should be grounded, 86 is connected to the remote turn on lead, 87 to a 12V source, and 30 to the amp and accessories. Is this correct? I've seen a number of different opinions on where I need fuses. Do you guys have any recommendations? I would guess a fuse between the 12V source and relay, and a fuse between the relay and the amp, but I'm a noob to wiring so I am probably wrong. Last question... what should I use for the 12V source? The amp will be in the trunk, so I suppose I could put the relay in the dash and use the cigarette lighter, but if anyone has any better ideas I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance. |
No Your relay wiring exacmple is incorrect. This one was covered here:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=419792 Fuse: yes ....even a cheap lil something somethin..but yes, fuse close close to "the source" of your power.Sure you could use the cigarette lighter, you could use the battery and run a wire back there. I like to tap the battery. Read the post I linked you to. fuseholder: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=070-675 |
