Wiring relay to turn on amp and accessories

After googling and looking through pages of threads on here, I'm a little confused as to how to hook up a relay to turn on my new amp and accessories (two fans, possibly a light or two). I know you shouldn't just use the remote turn on lead from the head unit to turn everything on, instead use a SPDT relay.

From what I read, terminal 85 should be grounded, 86 is connected to the remote turn on lead, 87 to a 12V source, and 30 to the amp and accessories. Is this correct?

I've seen a number of different opinions on where I need fuses. Do you guys have any recommendations? I would guess a fuse between the 12V source and relay, and a fuse between the relay and the amp, but I'm a noob to wiring so I am probably wrong.

Last question... what should I use for the 12V source? The amp will be in the trunk, so I suppose I could put the relay in the dash and use the cigarette lighter, but if anyone has any better ideas I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

No Your relay wiring exacmple is incorrect. This one was covered here:

Fuse: yes ....even a cheap lil something somethin..but yes, fuse close
close to "the source" of your power.Sure you could use the cigarette lighter, you could use the battery and run a wire back there.

I like to tap the battery. Read the post I linked you to.

87 to +
86 to ground
85 to your remote from radio
30 to your amps/accessories.
