Need opinions please, what's the best sql sub setup
I want to know what you guys think the best sub, amp, box, and position of the box. I want it to be at least 135db on the new tl and have the best sq possible.
I was thinking of doing two 10 in. diamond d6's in a sealed box. For amps, I was thinking about using two us amps tu-600 (tube amps, 300x2@2ohms). I'm not quite sure on where to fire the subs (where to point the box). I want to try to keep the bass in the cabin but I think it's usually louder when the subs are rear firing. I was also thinking about maybe putting them in a sealed box with the subs popping out of the rear shelf (where the 6x9's are). I had a couple other ideas one with 2 jl 10w7's, one with eclipse titanium subs, and a few other ideas. |
Most poeple do face subs towards the back. I would thin 2 nice 10's could hit 135 , and exacts have great SQ. Now if you moved up to 2 12's 135 shold be a piece of cake.
Why a tubes on subs? |
All of my other amps are tubes. Tubes sound better than transistors even on subs. I've heard the difference.
Do you think the subs would get loud enough if they were front-firing? I could get 12's but people usually associate 10's with sq more than 12's |
I was also thinking about doing two 10w7's (sealed) with a us amps usa-2000x (665x2@3ohms). I don't think it would be as clean but it would be louder.

You've got the 135 figure for IASCA competition?
Two tens off 600 watts is doable, but iffy (in SQ configuration). If you're looking for SQ and need to definately hit that 135 threshold for the points, there are other options that will 'definately' get you there. Not saying you won't/can't do it at all, man. I'm just saying I wouldn't want to lose comps cause my car didn't quite hit 135. Edit: W7's can sound pretty good....no really good. Pricey in my opinion (and mainstream), but they can get loud and sound good doing it. I can never take that from that sub. You know what you oughta look into, TWO 8W7'S....A few people I know that post elsewhere who have heard/owned them (single 8w7 setups) say that the 8W7 is their favorite sub, period......(and they've heard lotsa subs) |
I would be running the two tens off of 1200 watts rms (TWO tu-600's).
I would like to use different subs but my options are limited if I use the tu-600. It's 150x2@4ohms, 300x2@2ohms and it's nonbridgable. The diamond subs have dual 2ohm voice coils and can handle 800 watts rms. Has anybody heard diamond d6's in a sealed box? How did they sound? |
The DA D6/M6 subs sound extremely nice in sealed enclosures. Thats about the only that Ive used for them, as they used to be one of my best selling subs. Accuracy is very up to par, but SPL wise they may fall behind some others out there. Dont get me wrong, they will wake up a few people, but for competition there are some better subs out there.
Im personally not at all into SPL, but rather SQ and ran D6/M6 subs for quite some time with no dissapointment. |
I'm mainly into sq also but I need a sub that's loud enough to keep up with the mids/tweets

Ive been very well please with a large variation of different subs, all dependant on what music Im listening to, as well as which enclosure Ive used. My Alumapro Alchemy RXs sound extremely pleasant, almost to the extent of a midrange accuracy. By far not the loudest, but never fatigued my ears a bit even after several hours of listening. The DA TDX/D9s as well, more output, with a decent response in tones. Eclipse Titaniums had a bit of both worlds, relatively clean reproduction with a very fair amount of SPL. My current Flatlines would have to be me favorite though for the time being. Somewhat close to the accuracy of the RXs and the SPL of the Titaniums. All in a tiny enclosure = the best of all worlds. |
All of which were 12s

Would 600wrms from an underrated amp be enough to push one of the arc flatlines in a small sealed box? I know that the arc site says 1000rms (2000peak).
Don, you sell those subs, right? How much are they? |

Don, you sell those subs, right? How much are they? Yes Im a Arc dealer, but you might want to check for a local dealer to you. |
Image Dynamics IDMAX
JL Audio W6v2 Resonant Engineering SX (more SPL than SQ though) Image Dynamics IDv3s are pretty good budget subs, for pure SQ...go for IDQs For under $200....I really like the 15" Adire Tempest (first generation...not the new stuff) |
Memphis M-Class. their 12" sub and 500 D will give you nice thump, and great SQ.
