reccomend some 12's, amp

i have an extra box to hold 2 12's and lookin to put it in my other car, 97 taurus. Im looking for something inexpensive but loud that wont blow. what do you guys think i should go with? i was looking at infinitys or the alpine type e's

SEmy2K2go Aug 14, 2005 05:16 AM

You should research the specs of certain sub models in relation to the dimensions of this box you have in mind to use.

max723 Aug 14, 2005 05:30 AM

true, just measure to find the dimensions right and volume? dont know anything but its a q logic dual 12" box. also its sealed

1996blackmax Aug 14, 2005 06:46 AM

If there is a sticker on it you may be able tell what the model # is or also what type it is, such as type 1, 2, or 3. Type 1 is .88 cubic feet, the other ones are bigger.

max723 Aug 14, 2005 07:46 AM

ok, ill check. mine has 2 blocks of wood in each side glued in. is this to change the volume?

max723 Aug 14, 2005 07:48 AM

1.25 cu ft.

slickrick Aug 16, 2005 08:50 PM

stay away from type E's please.

PerfectVQ I30 Aug 17, 2005 12:02 AM

i love my perfect vq, VQ = variable Q. It comes with 3 inserts to adjust for anybox size from .6 cu all the way up to free air. If you want to go cheap u can get refernces for 50 bucks each, had good expiriences with those too.

max723 Aug 17, 2005 06:33 AM

ok, forget the type e's. ill prob go with infinity references.

slickrick Aug 17, 2005 04:35 PM

me personally... id spend more than $50 each for a 12 but what do i know?

max723 Aug 17, 2005 04:43 PM

i was looking to spend a little more than that but its just something for my beater, not max.

invest in good subs now so you don't have to regret your purchase later on down the road.

Well it doesn't seem like you have a large budget so I would recommend either Comp Vr's or Alpine Type R's. Both are decent woofers and can be had for very cheap on Ebay.

1996blackmax Aug 17, 2005 09:01 PM

For a little more than the Comp VR's you could get some TC Sounds 12's (TC2+ drivers) from O Audio. They are the same subs that Sound Splinter has, but they only carry the 10" and 8" sizes. I own the 10" version of the TC2+ (it is an RL-i from Sound Splinter), and it has good clean output. Those 12's have a little over 19mm of Xmax.

For a little more than the type R's you could get some RL-p12's from Sound Splinter. This is the big brother to the first subs I mentioned. I can only imagine how darn loud a pair of those would sound. Those things have 24.2mm of linear excursion.

here's a vid of a SS RL-p in action:

Quite a bit of movement there :). Earlier today I actually showed my son what the little RL-i10 could do. I opened the trunk and turned up one of songs on the Gorillaz cd with a little bit of bass (Dare I believe). Pretty cool to see what 20mm of linear excursion looks like :). I did tell him that I do not crank the system that loud to protect our ears (mostly his).

AscendantMax Aug 17, 2005 10:36 PM

i've yet to get see my sub in action lol. been mostly inside the car testing out buncha cds and what-not.
