Anyone blowing front speakers on NON-Bose 5.5 gens?
 

I recently (like in the last 6-8 months) replaced the front speakers in my 02 (they were blown Sony XPlods - they were in the car when I bought it) and they're already sounding crappy again. I don't even really listen to a lot of music - mainly AM Sports talk, to be honest, and they rattle with that! IT's pretty ridiculous. Any thoughts on the matter? I never installed the rear speakers so I guess I could throw those in but I really dont' feel like I should be having this problem given what I listen to in the car...

You did the install urself? I know nothing about sound stuff, If it was me I'd take it in to have a professional take a look. Maybe you need a diff kind of speaker.

well...first off, sony xplods....there's your first problem

second.. how are they mounted? speaks can't just be upgraded with a simple swap...maybe it's the way you mounted them that causes the rattle..

third...get an amp and a new h/u...otherwise wtf is the point of having just two new front speaks...xplods at that...

i have my stock speakers amped and i am satisfied with that. I turn it up very loud and I still have not blown anything. I was debating changing them for X-mas but i am getting fogs isntead. If it ain't broken, dont fix it.

I replaced my stocks with pioneer speakers. I've never blown the stock speakers even if they were turned up.

Never saw the point of upgrading my head unit because it does fine managing the speakers.

The stock unit is just fine. It's the crappy paper factory speakers most manufacturs put in the cars. Just upgrading to speakers is usually a good fix to poor sound quality.

well, they're not X-plods. I think they're Kenwoods or something. It could be the install, but it really sounds like they're blown. Pisses me off, nonetheless. THanks

Try to post in the audio forum for questions like this, but however you may be trying to run a set of speakers that is recieving to little an amount of power. I do highly doubt this caused your speakers to "blow" but more often than not underpowering speakers kills them quicker than anything. There are a lot of factors here to consider though. I would first check mounting. Next check connections...any wires grounding out could cause noise. Next, or actually first, double-check that you are non-Bose. Bose runs @ 2 ohms where as aftermarket speakers (most) run @ 4. Integrating aftermarket spks into a bose setup is known for killing spks in a matter of weeks (days even). Any shop can easily do a diagnosis for ya in about half an hour at most. Also check that your polarity is hooked up correctly (positive to positive terminal and neg. to neg. term.) Reversing one or a pair could drastically affect sound quality. Try those and then post....in AUDIO! :thumbsup: good luck.

I know u said nonbose but my two left boses blew.

Make sure your running the correct power to those fronts. That should be the reason your blowing them. Also are you running a stock head unit. If so replace it. No reason to upgrade speakers without doing a headunit first. Head-unit, Speakers, Amp, subs in that order. I have a pioneer system and never have blown a speaker.

can you be a little more specific on the noise/sound? do you get static? rattling?

i have an sony HU and it puts out 17W RMS per channel and I can't even turn it up 1/2 before hearing the crackling from the factory paper spkrs which proves they are made to handle something like 25W max per channel
