Cheapest stereo upgrade for louder sound?..
#1
First off, I probably have a smaller amount of knowledge on car audio then someone from the B.C. era.
My system consists of stock BOSE tapedeck + am/fm radio + car adaptor for my CD player. When you turn the volume to the limit, a lot of the time its still too low. I play most of the stuff on the rear speakers only.
I want car stereo but don't have much $, what can I do for higher volume for around 200$? Headunit? Box? help
Also, will a new headunit improve sound quality? and can I hook an aftermarket one up so it would work with the Blowse..? hrrmm.. opps, I meant Bose

The bose system is really not that bad... I'd say if it doesn't go loud enough for you, that's probably good because any louder and you're going to be damaging your hearing. Yeah yeah, who cares, but talk to some of the old car audio pros who are now partially deaf.
Anyway, there's no cheap and easy way to do anything because the bose system is all integrated. The adaptors you'd need to replace the head unit would cost over $100, and the improvement would be almost nil. If you want more bass, you could add a sub, but for $200 you're not going to get a decent sub, box, and amp anyway.
So my advice would be to either learn to live with it or save up and replace the whole system...

got me a Blaupunkt Houston for $200
Go to http://www.crutchfield.com. Crutchfield has lots of good info on car stereos and you can even put in what kind of car and system you have and they'll match you up with stuff that'll fit.
I got the Blaupunkt Houston for about $200 (including two free speakers!) and already the sound is much better than my stock radio (not Bose though). {Gotta see the look on ppl's faces when I come rolling up in my Maxima blasting Metallica. Priceless, absolutely priceless.}
I already have a bazooka and am planning to change all my speakers and I'm definately going to get them through Crutchfield.

Go with sony. I have had sony head units in all of my rides and have never been dipleased. And they are qaulity for the money. I have a mobile ES head unit and a in dash mini disc player right under it, and I just got mobile ES componet set for the front with a 200 watt amp pushing them. They sound awsome! I also have two eclips 10" with a PPI 1200 pushing them. And got it all for about a thousand. I do all of my own installation so that saves a lot of $$. Bot for the money I think sony makes a veriety of qaulity products, and they have a reasonable warranty. My 2 cents.
