AscendantMax Feb 24, 2006 03:44 PM

I currently have two type r's and im ported at 1000rms. A good 2 12's setup would be easier but i dont know if it will be enough.

filtor1 Feb 24, 2006 04:08 PM

rolondo has a pair of 15"s in a 4th gen. Try PMing him.

slickrick Feb 24, 2006 04:11 PM

you are deaf. end of story. or else your install sucks worse than a .02 hooker.

Thanks i really want more bass and my box for my twelves barely fits, so i could go to two better 12's or two 15's does anyone have any opinions??

slickrick Feb 24, 2006 04:14 PM

for spl get some better 12's and a better box/install. if you truly have 1k power with 2 12" alpine subs ported and it is not loud enough then something is wrong.

My bet is deaf (j/k)... I am not dumb i dont turn it up until my ears hurt...dont get me wrong its loud when i play rap or techno but when i play rock which is what i listen to the most i wish it would hit a little harder.

AscendantMax Feb 24, 2006 04:17 PM

then a ported enclosure isn't your best bet. a lot of subs can sound very sloppy in ported applications. but if you go sealed, you will lose spl. invest in better subs imo.

you need 2 things: more mid bass and/or a sealed box. a sealed box will take care of the rock music. however you do realize most rock cannot touch the bass in rap and should NEVER expect it to be close in loudness.

The only weak part of my system is the box because its tuned a little high at 38hz i am not a noob when it comes to car audio....i just want to do an upgrade so i will be set.

slickrick Feb 24, 2006 04:21 PM

tune lower for a flatter response then. :)

Yea im very unhappy with my midbass i have some boston acoustic comps and hate them im getting some cdt comps and my doors are very well deadened. I was thinking better 12's sealed or 15s sealed and i know not to expect bass from rock to sound like bass from rap...thanks for your help any suggestions on sub models ive been looking at re sx 12s or 15s any opinions??

Well i bought them when i didnt know any better and they are sx65 i believe they can be had online for about 100 and i payed over 300 at a local car audio place that was about a year ago and i have learned more than i ever thought that there was to know and still dont know near enough. They are really bad i hate them and btw they are amped.

skierxx5556 Feb 24, 2006 04:39 PM

Are your speakers amped? And those type R's can get real loud it sounds like its your install.

AscendantMax Feb 24, 2006 04:44 PM

boston acoustics makes some damn good speakers (although a bit pricey)...so i don't know how they are "really bad". the SX65's are just coaxils, not really true components. but even so, they should provide decent amount of midbass.

i think it's the install that's need adjustment...

ryanjimz Feb 24, 2006 04:53 PM

:sprint: I have two 12" type r's with a sealed box and the thing is loud with rap or rock. Like previously stated...if it's rock you want then ported isn't your best bet

It must be the rears that are sx then maybe fx for the comps ill check and post later. Dont get me wrong some of their stuff is good but im pretty sure that those are their low end comps and trust me they suck.

ryanjimz Feb 24, 2006 05:17 PM

excuse the crookedness of the "maxima" ....im on it

Ricksi30 Feb 24, 2006 05:21 PM

Very sweet how do they handle the 750 i heard the r's are under rated but you have the old version...you prob have to watch your gains...i like it ill get a pic soon im running an alpine mrd m1005 1000rms

Doors=Deadened
What about completely sealed? In deadening the doors against rattles is one thingm but have you covered up the access panels to seal the doors? :russ: That would increase your midbass response, as you seem to have a decent set right now. Just a thought :fart: as well this will keep you from brand hopping trying to find the mid. If anything follow don and manny and do an 8 in the door and some domes in the kick or actual kickpanels for front imaging.

Subs. 3 twelves sealed for the win. If your currently running two type rs they would be best setup in just over four cubes for the two subs. for a combination of the two music styles i would say your close i would shoot a little lower on the tuning. Get over to the car audio box website( Google TCAB) and youll be set...Or you could just get with SBlazer or TCAB (Mark Potts) on www.forums.caraudio.com and get some specs. Their pretty knowledgeable on those subs (150+ on single sub setups constantly...

damn, he must be deaf.

If you listen to rock music the most, i'd stay away from 15s.. they'll only bring you less kick. And definately go sealed..

Didnt realize you had the old ones, I used to run for of them, they metered 2dbs below my 4 12w6s consistent high 140s. Good woofers. I was partial to sealed for them and was very happy in whatever i listened to, and truthfully they can take up to the 1000watt each ;) . I gave each woofer 1.25 pre displacement.

I'm probably the biggest metal-head on this forum, and I like my metal LOUD. If you want your metal to hit hard with subs you are going to need a subwoofer cone that is made of (ironically enough) metal as it will provide the fast response you are looking for with double-bass laden songs. I had to spend around $1k to get the subs system equipment, but you get what you pay for.

adampit Feb 25, 2006 08:04 AM

i am thinking about adding a second 13w7, which is pretty close to a 15" sub =)

1996blackmax Feb 25, 2006 09:08 AM

Man........I only have one little ole ten inch sub.......Might be going with a 12 pretty soon though :D.

I remember when I was in high school and some guys had four 15's in their cars. When they drove by it felt as if someone was thumping you on your chest.

Hey, if you like throwing your cash away I have some old shares of Enron and IMClone stock I could sell you.

Probably not what you were thinking :hide: ...

I will probably be going with an ARC series 12D2. I had thought about the SS RL-p12, but after emailing Mike a few times I decided otherwise. The SS sub is going to require a much bigger box than what I have now to sound nice. The ARC sub only requires a .90 cubic foot box. I know in one of the reviews it said it had a hump in the upper bass frequency response with this enclosure, but nothing a little EQ-ing or lower x-over setting wont fix. In the review they actually put it in a 1.25 cubic foot box. Trunk space is pretty important to me. I may play around with my amplifier location to see if I can squeeze some more room. I will see..........

AscendantMax Feb 25, 2006 09:27 AM

sealed i assume? either way, you can't go wrong with arc :)

ryanjimz Feb 25, 2006 09:32 AM

annnnnd im jelous.. w7's..ahh so sexy sounding:doublethu

What subs are you running...are you happy with them i think that you answered my thread perfectly....i just didnt ask the right question...what you said about the double bass was the one thing i dont like about the r's...you can hear the seperate hits but i wish they were more clear and punchy...Thanks for everyones help.

Ricksi30 Feb 25, 2006 11:05 AM

I think im looking for more sq than i thought but i dont want to lose spl from what i have now.

I was looking to only spend 800 for 2 subs and an amp but if i have to spend 1000 to get what i want i will.

Does anyone run CDT comps and how do you like them??

How much deadening is everyone using??

Sorry for all of the questions but im trying to do it right this time.....and i wanted to go to a nice set of comps to build a nice front stage....im not just a bass head.
