So, we're talking systems...

2002 SE..Factory Bose

Last weekend I had a chance to get into the max's system, and here is what she got so far:

1- Rainbow SLC 265 front stage

2-MB Quart RAA2400

<See reviews..!>

Now, I have yet to change the head unit, but how would you think this ranks with the factory Bose?

It sucks :(

Hugely lacking midbass, tweeters are so bright at times I cant turn it up past 18 (whereby I used to be able to go up to 23 or so with the stock!)

The tweeters definately sound better than the stock little 'tweeters' that bose put in..
There is an ever so slight noticeable difference in SQ..

Question 1: Is this expected, since it is running off the factory HU? Input is via high level > line level converter > amp.
Also, what setting does everyone have their crossovers set at?

Next up..the head unit going in on Saturday..

1-Alpine IVA-W200

Once in, and obviously connected to the amp via proper rca connections - can I expect a big difference? One to justify installing all this equipment??

Additional thoughts:

I am considering purchasing a couple amps (same model x 2) - the alpine pdx 2.150. Do you think this would be a better amp to use for the rainbows?

The second amp I was thinking of bridging and using for a sub amp - what 8" (I really dont want to go any bigger) sub would you all suggest? Is there anything I can put in the place of the bose? Even if it doesnt fit - I can get the mounting plate customized to fit other subs..but, I know I'll need a free air..suggestions?

Sorry for the long-ish post..
all input is appreciated!

Thanks:rollsmile

keep the amps and install the radio...then tell us how you like it. cross over the rainbows from about 65-80hz.

So..should I lose the MB quart and go with the alpines.?

Or go with 1 alpine, 1 MB..?

stick with the amps you have now...both are fine.

Deaden and seal those doors and switch to the Alpine HU and see how you feel. Be sure to seal off the trunk from the cabin when you get that sub(s). Image Dynamics ID8, I think DLS makes freeair 8's and others. The MB quarts are supposed to be nice amps.

both amps are good choices. im going to be picking up a PDX (150 x 4) soon as well, as soon as i sell my JL amps. let us know how it sounds whatever you choose.

oh, and i like that HU :)

I would keep the amp you already have....

Get a Nakamichi amp. I know a certain someone who has some in stock.

Might that person be from around your neck of the woods :).
