Bose HU Question - 98 SE

Sorry if this a basic newbie question, but my audio experience is minimal.

My stereo is randomly making some funny noises, leading me to think the HU is starting to fail. It is kind of a electrical popping/static kind of noise. I have heard the noise while listening to FM, CD and also in the silence between songs.

I would like to retain the factory look of the Bose HU, but would like to know what newer Bose HUs might fit in the dash. Am I limited to 99 as the newest or will a 5th or 5.5 gen fit?

Thanks in advance,
Paul

You're limited to a 4th gen Bose unit.

Though, I'd save my money and just go aftermarket. You can find some decks that look great in your dash. Sound will be better and bang for buck will also be better.
