What's the highest SPL from your maxima?

What is the highest SPL anyone has hit here in their maxima, and list your setup used.

xtantmaxima Jul 6, 2006 06:24 PM

143.7 db with 3 10W3 off of a Xtant 1001. I think the new setup is louder, but it's unmetered.

BBOYSTEVIE Jul 6, 2006 08:02 PM

Thats loud. If I could add to this, it would be useful to also post more details of the sub setup...

sealed, ported, bandpass....
how facing...
Where was it metered from and what meter.....

AscendantMax Jul 6, 2006 08:14 PM

137 dB, 300 watts going to my 15, 2.0 net sealed. mic was placed in the passenger side kick, termlab mic, engine on, one door open.

i want to remeter just for sh*ts and giggles since i'm putting a lot more power into my sub now.

Matt93SE Jul 6, 2006 08:21 PM

My SQ car did 139.5dB on a trio of 10W6s in 2.5ft sealed running off a PPI A600.2
that was.. uhhh 6 years ago as well. :)

I've upgraded to four Focal 12s on an A1200.2 and the A600.2 now runs my front mids. (I'm old skool) :)

i've yet to hear your setup. you probably have the loudest 3rd gen in Houston :chuckle:

lemme know when's the next nissan meet in town, i'll check it out. :D

ShRapNeR Jul 7, 2006 12:08 AM

re 15xxx 3.5ft^3 box. 35hz, getting roughly 1800watts. gave me 139.6 with new tl on the dash.

Matt93SE Jul 7, 2006 09:54 AM

nah.. it's not very loud at all. it's set up for SQ.

I just got the thing running again a couple weeks ago after sitting for a year.. the stereo sounds like crapola. but it works so I haven't bothered trying to find out what's wrong with it yet. might do that this weekend if it's not 1000000 degrees outside.

Hexon Jul 7, 2006 01:34 PM

Can I just go to my local audio shop and have them test how loud my setup is? How much do you think they would charge?

AscendantMax Jul 7, 2006 10:54 PM

you can ask them if they have a mic to meter with. doubt every car audio shop will have a mic handy...

HitManSE Jul 7, 2006 11:03 PM

Max's arnt exactly the best SPL cars but :gotme: I never metered mine. Im sure it was in the mid 140s though.

ryanvalin Jul 10, 2006 02:37 PM

I'm a bit dissappointed to see the results (not to be rude or to put down anyone). I was hoping that the maxima's were a decent vehicle for bass. I was planning on running one 18" sub off of my memphis MOJO amp, but i don't think i'm going to be happy with the results, according to the above stats. I just might have to rethink my setup. I was hoping for 145ish.

AscendantMax Jul 10, 2006 05:23 PM

i'm pretty sure you can get 145. the install is a HUGE factor.

filtor1 Jul 10, 2006 05:46 PM

Everyone should post what mic and where, windows up or down. I have seen up to a 6 db difference between the new TL and the older AC mic.

With that, I did a 139.8 on the new TL, on the dash, windows up, seats down. It peaked at 41 Hz. I gained .4 with the drivers side window down, so a 140.2.

I have an Eclipse 8455-Rainbow Contour 6.5"s in the front doors, Alpine Type-R 6.5"s in the rear doors, front stage powered by an Alpine MRV-540, 2- Diamond Audio TDX 12"s ported-tuned to 32, subs powered by a Diamond Audio D6 1500.1, stock battery and alternator with a Yellowtop in the trunk.

What 18 were you thinking about? You could get 145+ depending on tuning and box design. Most of us here are tuned for daily driving so the scores reflect the lower tuning.

:sprint:

don't think many of us in here are SPL fanatics.

Once again the max is NOT the best SPL oriented vehicle, its not too bad though & you can get it quite loud in one. Im not sure how loud mine was, but it was loud enough to disturb breathing dependent on the note(s) being played and get the eyes wobbly, nose & face shaking, ect... you get the idea.

Easily beyond what would be considered the comfort zone. I didnt have the best built box & had minimal port area, oh and port tuning was 28hz. Im sure with a decently built box an 18 with any sort of power should be quite impressive. Unless you feel like going with 5-6 8" subs :D
That too would probably shock you.

autobotguy Jul 11, 2006 02:51 AM

If your going to want an SPL oriented car, box design is where its at. There is a saying that true SPL cars are 95% box design and implementation and 5% speaker. SPL cars often use walls that are either ported or bandpass in design. Both ported and bandpass walls are tuned higher that an average street thumper would use. Most are around the high 40s to low 60s. You must also dampen and brace the car heavily. Any flex in the box or car will lose you valuable DB.

JEXTEL Jul 12, 2006 10:18 PM

my bro is hitting a 148.2 in a blazer with 2 9500's and about 3500wrms, Im going to be running 2 9500's and a 2500d 2500wrms so i think i can hit 146.x or 147.x but how knows

AscendantMax Jul 13, 2006 12:13 AM

thing is, he's driving a SUV...all that pressure just goes to the mic. Our cars on the other hand, have a trunk. The bass has a harder time getting into the cabin.

147 in a car is pretty high.

JEXTEL Jul 13, 2006 02:59 AM

Damn....hmm, Long as i have the loudest on the block il be cool I guess....

BLK2BLU Jul 13, 2006 06:39 AM

I have seen a 144.7 in a 5th gen. He had two kicker L5 12's.

The Russian Jul 14, 2006 09:59 AM

thats nothing ....................... i know this guy who had 2 13.5 inch jl audio w7's and 2 1000.1 amps.......... he played it on -7 and he blew his back window out ........... he had to go and get fiberglass windows......... or somthin i ono some kind of speical windows......... besides that his whole car rattles like nails in a jairr when ur shaking it....................... 145+ in our cars would be difficult if it is made for music. An SPL box, you might have a chance. But daily, no. Especially on the newer more sensitive mic's.

What mic? I would belive it on the older AC mic. Was it on the dash or in the kick, and were the windows open?

It was all before I got into car audio, I don't remember what mic and all that...I just remember 144.7 out of either a 00 or 01 max.

Im going to have two boxes, 35hz for DD and 43hz for comps

AscendantMax Jul 16, 2006 09:18 AM

instead of 2 boxes, why not make port plugs that adjusts the tuning of the box?

Very true. I was in Arizona working with Mobile Dynamics and Rockford Fosgate on a project 2 yrs ago and we built a system for a Scion truck. It used a Sony 12" sub and a Sony 2x100 w amp and we got 138db out of it.

I bass race in the 120.00-129.9db class but can "burp" a 130.7db on Term-Lab meter

2 JL Audio 10w1v2's, Hifonics 5 channel amp, sub channel of amp 300 w rms x 1 @ 2 ohm in a sealed fiberglas enclosure

Don't forget that it is an average over a 30 second period as well. You can jump the gun and "red light" and recieve a 5 second penalty at 0db worked into your average. I did a 136.8 the last time I bass raced. I would bump down to the 120-129.9 class to compete. Also, if you break out or go above your class, you lose. I think it's fun. But I am just a bass head. :)
