to anyone thinking of buying cheep rca's

Dont do it. i spent over a month trying to get rid of alt whine in my system. on a whim i swaped out the cheep shielded rca's for a set of twisted. (had 3 pairs of shielded rca's and went down to one high quality twisted) ... no more whine or distortion. so dont cheep out on the rca's.

Most of us knew this :wall:

I used Stinger RCA's but I doubt that's even good enough for some members haha

Meh nuttin wrong with Stinger, in fact I stock the majority of their interconnects. BUT they are a bit overpriced in the price - performance ratio. Riding the wave of the most popular name in the biz.

knukonceptz krystal do it for me..

Believe it or not you can actually use bare wire to run your signal to your amplifier and NOT have the alternator noise heard through your amp. There are several issues as to why you have a wine with a cheap pair verses a high end pair.

1. The most important factor is placement in the vehicle. Most vehicle manufacturers run their power, acc., signal (communication) and battery (for components that do not rely on acc for activation but are turned ON from an independent acc from another module. i.e. radio and power ant.) on the driver side of the vehicle to the rear. Therefore in these cases you MUST run your Amplifier battery and remote wire on the driver side, then your RCA on the passenger side.

2. The theory behind the wine is a magnetic field that is generated as the current flows through the copper, then couples on the shield of the RCA's. The reason why most good RCA's don't allow coupling is due to the shielding (form the source end) is single-end (terminated one side) allowing the coupling to dissipate to ground. [i.e - monster cable are directional] Terminating the shield on both ends will create a ground loop which is basically an antenna for magnetic fields. Well sorta, just do not want get to deep in theory!

3. Twisted pair works on the same theory yet does not allow a complete signal phase to couple, which makes it far more superior to a standard RCA cable.

Radio Shack RCA's FTMFW! :woot2:

:hide:

No engine noise or alternator whine. :hs:

I'll be upgrading mine shortly with some 300 series Monster Cable RCAs. :hs: Also upgrading my speaker cable with some Stinger 12 gauge. I pray that will eliminate my whine and help SQ.

I ran scosche for years with no problems..but I use Stinger Helix now. :)

Unfortunately it wont improve your SQ. Just fyi - Monster is THE most overrated brand on the US market. ;)

You mean their really thin wires that you buy from walmart? I use that for the sub amp but gotta upgrade real soon cause i think it is hurting me.

OK...I'm just curious what do you use for your installs, and if money wasn't an object what would you suggest???

Pearl96Max May 27, 2007 05:35 PM

Generally .. Stinger or IXOS

http://www.ixos.co.uk/us/where-to-bu...1&ZID=1&CID=31

I dont think they updated their website yet though to reflect the mobile lines. Although alot of my clients have used the Ixotica which is in both home and mobile.

It sounds like you either had a defective set of cables or you're running them near something that was generating interference. I've been able to get away with $3 super market bought rca cables which had no shielding and weren't twisted. I had no distortion and no alternator whine.

sterlingmaxima May 29, 2007 03:14 PM

hahah I use to use ixos, not bad at all I have all stinger rcas and it sounds perfect. Phoenix golds stuff is good to.

tjmutlow May 29, 2007 05:04 PM

use good ones, there is a differene in rcas and shielding, etc
