Capacitor's Place...

So i'm gonna run 3 amps...1700 watts rms total (estimate)

Don't know much about caps, but everyone says to install it as close to the amp as pissible, or before the amp...I'm using distribution block of course, but i dont want the cap to work for just one amp so...can I just put the cap (2.1 fared or more?) on the power wire before it hits the distrubution block?

Battery----Cap----Block----3 Amps?

kpr10is Sep 16, 2007 09:45 PM

Step 1. Throw the cap off a cliff.
Step 2. Get a nice battery up front and do the big three.
Step 3. Enjoy

:)

shyheim07 Sep 16, 2007 10:05 PM

did the big three, got yelltop, 220 amp alt..

no cap needed? still dims

AscendantMax Sep 16, 2007 11:27 PM

220 amp alt and it STILL dims? there's gotta be a weak ground somewhere if you still have dimming issues with your beefed up eletrical.

maximal Sep 17, 2007 12:06 AM

if you really want to use a cap, put it on the sub amp. your other amps won't really need it.

otoh, i just saw your other thread on preout voltage...
i have a feeling that's your problem right there. you have low preout voltage and in turn are maxing out your gains to try to get loud. this is straining your electrical system.

my hu puts out 5v and my gains are set at maybe 15-20%. i don't go past 14 on my volume knob...

well, i dont max out my gains, thats just not smart. I turn it up to 2, since the volts are two. its about 20%. i dunno. I have 4 awg runnng, maybe i will sound better when i put in 0 :)

cap=crap. something else is wrong. 220 amp and your diming? like AscendantMax said. probably a bad ground... check your battery terminals for currioson. make sure your ground is secure. fyi doesnt matter were you place the cap, it will work the same. in theory you could put it under the hood and will have the same exact affect, more strain on your system then benifits.

cap's place? in the garbage

BLK2BLU Sep 17, 2007 09:42 AM

Guys, you don't have to throw the cap away, I use my friend's old one as a paper weight

Batxel Sep 17, 2007 05:34 PM

Depends on how much the alt is putting out vs how much your drawing from it. My 220 amp alt doesn't do much of anything at idle so I do get dimming there but 1k rpm+ I don't get any diming and I have no where near 1700 watts rms. Mine is an iraggi which states 100A at idle when it probably does only 35A at idle. I don't think he knows what the idle is on maxima with a 5 speed.

Battery----Cap----Block----3 Amps?[/QUOTE]

yes you can but shouldnt need it i run 2 amps on an old stock type batt and dont dim
do you have a UDP?

lol was gonna say the same thing!

arkainshadow Sep 17, 2007 06:45 PM

we need a cap sticky. weres that write up i did on them.

Pearl96Max Sep 17, 2007 07:11 PM

Cap .. trash can.

Something seems to be the issue with your electrical, or your amps are just THAT inefficient.

i figured you'd already upgraded to 0 awg. that could be your problem right there.

This thread reeks of a poorly designed system, on the OP's part.

how so? The 4 AWG was running only the 4 channel. Subs were not even in.

Yeserday my 0 awg kit came in. Fused ditribuition black and 0 to 4 awg. Everything is solid.

Don't even have to use the base boost so its not drawing anything extra. At idle, it does dimm, but its not like the engine putts or anyhting, just a quick drop then it right back up. On the highway, I got up to 14.3 volts and it got loud as hell, but it does not dimm above 1000 rpm, so the caps place is the trash..good lookin' out

chinaonnitrous1 Sep 21, 2007 09:17 AM

Do Alumapro Caps belong in the Garbage too?

I've been out of the loop for a while. I have the Flat 25farad capacitor thingy.

djfrestyl Sep 29, 2007 08:58 AM

All caps belong in the trash.

edit: except those that are already inside your amp :D

LoMaximA96 Oct 1, 2007 04:21 PM

they make nice paperweights

Capacitor's Place...

...Dumpster.

Actually no, might get in trouble for improper disposal.:nono:

EDIT: I read the whole thread after posting, and I have to say that your local landfill seems to be the consensus.
