I'm going to give this sub/midbass a shot (Free-air 8")
JL Audio has this out for 2008, and I'm going to give it a shot. It's the Evolution ZR800-CW Midbass 8" Sub. Goes down to 40Hz so that sounds like it'd do the job I'm looking for.
http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_amps.php?amp_id=256 I don't have any reviews for it or anything to go off of so I figured I'll be the guinea pig for everyone that's looking to do a Free Air replacement on their rear deck for the 5th gen. I'll probably pair it with the 500/5 from JL Audio as well, using that to push the Rainbow SLC265's. Hopefully, I won't be disappointed in this setup but we will see. I've got 2 12's ready if the 8" needs more ummmpf. Currently, don't need low pounding bass, just low enough with excellent sound quality. |
Your link doesn't work, and that 8" will prob leave you wanting more. The SLC's would most likely have more to them bass/midbass wise than the JL, IF you're doors are properly setup.

If you're used to 2 12's....I wouldn't do it. =P
I tried this also..it was nice but it wasn't enough. Save your monies for buying a REAL AMP (non JL). =P |

http://mobile.jlaudio.com/jlaudio_pages.php?page_id=215 O, I'm sure you're absolutely right. I just wanted to test this and see the outcome. There's not much out there for choices on Free Air. What's the best setup you have found for the doors on my particular car with the SLC's? I have yet to tear apart anything and play around until now. |
Seal up all wholes, deaden the outer and inner and the door panel. You can use any sub free-air, they will just perform differently. I suggest you find something with a larger voice coil, higher power handling, and plays lower than 40hz.

I'm trying everything I can for the moment to save space in the trunk. I really need it right now because I do a bit of traveling and there's always something in it. I just might have to bite the bullet and revert back to my original plan of glassing.......

:sprint:
get a sub that works well in a small sealed enclosure and you should have a decent amount of trunk room left over. here's my current setup. the box have since been carpeted. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...o/IMG_0499.jpg |
Or a nice fiberglass enclosure : http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...00/BLAU004.jpg

YEAH....I went through that phase also. I was then disappointed with the results. I just got a box that was skinny depth wise but was the width of my trunk between the wheel wheels. I still have a decent amount of trunk space. :D
Seemed like a good idea huh? :( |

Fi just started making IB subs. For now they only come in 15" and 18" but with the proper baffle and the sub firing into the back seat (seats down being optional) There would only be the basket and an amp taking up room in the trunk. All you wold ned to do is seal up the trunk to eliminate stading waves from the rear of the driver. If I wasn't such a bass head, his is what I would be doing.

link worked fine filtor, very interesting. I was wondering when Fi was going to be doing something more (not that they need to)
