Whats the deal with rainbows?

ok so whats the deal with rainbow audio? i have never heard of them before and just recently started seeing them all over the forum here and on another one. I tried finding their main website but that was full of fail. Are they super quality or something? they seem to be similarly priced to alpine and jl's

lilmush 05-11-2008 10:16 PM

http://www.rainbow-audio.de/

VTonmymind 05-11-2008 11:01 PM

Well, they sound really really really good.

kpr10is 05-11-2008 11:03 PM

Hard to find locally but popular on the forums. Non-mainstream, high-end german brand, and yes, they are super quality. They WILL squash their similarly priced competitors, including alpine and jl.

Our moderator here just happens to sell them and gives .org members good deals, which is part of the reason theyre popular around these parts.

There is a whole world of higher end car audio that most don't know about, and once you are exposed, you will blow all your money on gear from Don :)

Arc Audio, Audison, Dynaudio, DLS, Tru Technology, Genesis, Nakamichi...I know I'm missing a bunch more of his stuff but do some searching around/reading about those brands and youll never look back. Before you know it youll be thumbing your nose at jl and the like.

SuBXeRo 05-11-2008 11:14 PM

i know nakamichi is supposedly very good home audio and my assumption is good for car audio as well, im scouting out new brands and trying to expand what i like. I am trying to find brand which offer 2 and 3 way systems which have good low freq range because chances are i wont be having a sub in my next car so i am trying to atleast get something that can get to those low ranges. Plus i want some superior quality. My next system will most liekly consist of a toughscreen and extrenal amp for all of the speakers. Then again, this will all most likely be going into a coupe

kpr10is 05-11-2008 11:21 PM

What kind of coupe will be the deciding factor as far as what speakers to buy because of size fitment, being youd want to fit the biggest midbass possible. Beyond that it depends on amplification and preference. Dyn and DLS make two and three way sets, both with 6.5's and 8's as the dedicated midbass, so it all depends on the car and your mounting options what is going to work best, obviously 8's being the best option if you aren't running subs. There are other brands out there too and others will chime in but those were just off the top of my head that Don carries.

SuBXeRo 05-11-2008 11:27 PM

i am gunning for the altima coupe 3.5. I really dont wanna get into hacking into the doors, so i was thinking i could rig up the 3 way or so in the rear deck while hookinh up the 2 way in the front. I can mount 2 8's in the rear deck much easier then in the door. I just want some more boom with the ride.

The decision will come down to, in the end, whether or not i like the bose sound system in the car. I havent listened to it yet, but its got 2 subs that go with it. I also dont know if i wanna **** around and lose steering wheel controls either. If prices come out right, then we will see where things lead me. DOing a fresh system would be a great experience for me, but there is alot of tweaking and **** that will go into it.

i do wish though that klipsch made car components

AscendantMax 05-11-2008 11:30 PM

like kev mentioned, they just simply sound very good. :)

all the car audio enthusiasts that heard my setup loved how it sounds.

SuBXeRo 05-11-2008 11:49 PM

ill have to go and check out these companies some more, i suppose itll be tough for me to find a shop with em, other than that, ill have to compare and choose based on what fitsme best. its not a proper way to do it, butif these are all very high end, then i hope the turn out is ok

If you're in jersey i'm sure you could just stop by don's shop and he'll give you an audition of whatever garbage he has in his truck. :D

Deckdout2 05-12-2008 06:57 AM

Wait a few more weeks and i'll show you what the deal is with rainbows. :D

SuBXeRo 05-12-2008 09:52 AM

o yeah thats right, iforgotthat he'sin jersey too durand i just got backin to town for the summer

ElVito1981 05-12-2008 09:52 AM

i have an altima 3.5 sedan with DLS 6.5" 3-way components---sound excellent. Very good midbass. I also do not have a sub (didn't want one). I would have gotten 8" drivers, but Don said they wouldn't fit. I don't know how DLS components compare with Rainbows, but I am very happy with my Iridiums. And you're right, with good enough midbasses, you don't need a sub. But by all means, don't put any speakers in the rear (let alone components). With 3-ways in the front and nothing else, you're golden.

nismos14 05-12-2008 07:45 PM

I'll be putting Dynaudio System 360 ( 3-way component set with 8" midbass) into my Alti SE-R, whatever you do, don't pollute your sound with that setup in the rear.

Parag, how will you get the 8"s to fit?? Cause they wouldn't fit in my Altima.

nismos14 05-13-2008 06:46 AM

Some cutting, yelling, hammering, :)

If only I also lived around the block from the Don :(

nismos14 05-13-2008 07:16 AM

Haha, I'll be installing them myself, if install is the issue. However getting the product, ftw! Big thanks to Don for the Sys 360..

Coolsaber57 05-13-2008 08:23 AM

Ok, i'm a fairly new to car audio, and love the sound of components in my buddy's car.

When you say 2 way and 3 way components, what does that mean exactly? Does it mean a 2 way has a tweeter and a mid/woofer and a 3-way has a tweeter, a mid, and a woofer?

Your right!

Coolsaber57 05-13-2008 09:44 AM

Ah cool. But how would you mount 3 -ways? Would you have to custom mount it in a kick panel or something?

nismos14 05-13-2008 09:48 AM

Yes, some custom mounting, door panels or kicks.

Coolsaber57 05-13-2008 12:45 PM

Now, do people with 3 ways often get subs for the rear? Or are the woofers enough?

ElVito1981 05-13-2008 12:52 PM

hey dude--you're so much like me (similar questions, and you live near me too!) Where exactly? I'm in Tysons. I have 3-ways without a sub and I think the bass is good enough--but I don't have sound deadening in my front doors yet, so I don't know completely how the midbasses perform under optimal circumstances. I could see myself getting a small sub customized to be flush mounted inside the trunk, but it's not a must-have. Even at 6.5"s, the woofers do really well.

nismos14 05-13-2008 01:07 PM

If you dont need subbass then 3-ways would suffice.

Coolsaber57 05-13-2008 01:24 PM

Hmm, i've got more to consider now.

Although for now, It'd suffice to have my stupid amp working right now.

@ElVito1981 I'm up in Arlington.

Oh cool

SuBXeRo 05-14-2008 12:34 AM

whats a good way to mod the front doors to fit 3 ways, or would just a rear deck 3 way be ok.

i want to do 3 ways some how bit i really dont want to get into fiberglassing

NEVER put a component set in the rear deck. You want the stage in front of you not behind you.

You don't HAVE to glass, you can mount midrange in the kicks, tweeter in the door, midbass in the door.

midrange + tweets in the kicks, midbass in the door. Pretty Accurate imaging, it def. surprised me the first time I heard it like that. :D

SuBXeRo 05-14-2008 09:55 AM

o i def understand that sound imaging should come from the front. I am thinking about how i am going to do it in my new car which will probably be the altima coupe. The rear are 6x7 or 6x9 and i was gonna put the mid range and woofer in the rear deck and the tweeter in the sides of the car so its projected at you. Then i was gonna have the 2 way components set in thr front or 3 way depending on if i find the room for it. Just need some more bass. This is all speculation based on me actually getting the car and actually deciding to not get the bose system and do a new install.

nismos14 05-14-2008 09:58 AM

Just put a good front stage in, don't do that crazy setup projected to the front, that'll mess EVERYTHING up.

SuBXeRo 05-15-2008 01:05 AM

well ill have tof igure something out lol, i will be in the front, just need good bass and overall good sound

nismos14 05-15-2008 05:09 AM

3-way will do it, properly installed you'll be set.
