Anyone have problems with the Metra 12088900 dash kit?

I've installed an aftermarket unit today (Kenwood Excelon KDC-X592) and the gap between the radio and the pocket is about 1/2 an inch. I am not able to slide the Metra faceplate on to remove part of the gap since I have the Nissan accessory wood grain kit.

Has someone had success with any aftermarket pockets that go under the single din after market radio in these vehicles?

Will a pocket from a GXE Maxima with a door work in this application? The vehicle is a '99 Maxima SE that came stock with the Bose double din stereo.

Thanks
