Calling all hackers: USB into 07 Bose HU

So I want to run audio devices as a direct signal into my head-unit. It's a 2007 Bose non navi. I know I wont have any steering wheel controls or anything, but has any one modded a straight up USB port into where the iPod adapter will go?

For example, instead of using the OEM iPod cable, it would be a USB plug to transmit data and power.

I want to explore whats possible, such as other MP3 players, flash memory, etc..

I think you'd need to get an adapter and plug into the back of the unit. You can't jack into the Aux with USB with or without hacking.

I don't think it is possible. You have to have the software to decode the codec used to encode the media. The ipod has the software and codec built into it. A USB drive can only store the media and is useless without something to decode it.

You asked about the ipod port, but I think that's probably not cost effective to find a solution for.
I remember reading about products that use the CD changer or Sat radio port to offer USB ports (and in many cases still leaves the port available to the intended device)

google produces
("cd changer" OR "satellite radio") usb port

Dension Gateway 500

Hong Kong OEM unit (there are several others)

This site seems to offer some kind of integration to a carputer
