Head unit & speaker depth Q's
Soon I am going to upgrade my stereo (c'mon tax refund check.) Here are my questions:
1. What is the maximum head unit depth that will fit our dash? I've read posts from other members who's head units stick out of the dash. I want to avoid that look at all costs. 2. What is the maximum depth for front speakers? I want to keep the stock grilles in place and also make installation as easy as possible (no spacer rings if I can avoid them.) How deep a speaker can I install without running into the grille or affecting the window operation? 3. Speaking of front speakers, one more audio-newbie question. When installing a set of component speakers, where does the crossover go? Is it installed in the door along with the woofer & tweeter, or does it need to be in the car (and probably wired through the factory loom)? If it matters to you, I am trying to choose between the Pioneer DEH-P7400MP and the JVC KD-SH99. I'm also comparing the Polk dx3065, Infinity 60.3cs, DEI 3065 & maybe Boston RC620 (Pro 6.5 if I start selling my plasma). Rears, subs & a changer in the future. Thanks in advance for your help. Regards, TOM |
I don't think that the depth of the head unit is really a problem. The problem people have is that many aftermarket units tend to stick out a certain amount by design. This just doesn't look nice when the dash was intended to have a head unit with a flush face.
