cheap higher wattage vs low wattage , which better?

What is the deal with the wattage? I see these cheap speakers with really high advertised wattage, and then expensive with lower wattage. I didn't think higher wattage makes something sound better, i thought it has to do with sensitivity and quality, im a newbie to car systems, so help me out please? Also, which of these brands is usually rated at greatest to least...audiobahn, blaupunkt, pioneer, cerwin vega, and infinity kappa? thanks for any replies

Usually you get what you pay for, even if the RMS seems comparable a lot of times the quality and material are night and day between some knock off speakers and a real quality brand....Just like with amps, a lot of amps can be bridged at 2 ohms but very few will last wired like that. I have a friend who has had his ZR 360 that way for two and a half years...

Can't just look at wattage. There are some POS knockoff brands that require some crazy amounts of wattage, but sound horrible. But then you look at something like a JL 10W7 that is best around 750-1000 watts... and hell, that's possibly the most amazing sub out now. It basically is a "you get what you pay for thing". But sometimes that doesn't apply. And sometimes you can get one sub that's louder than two subs when running off the same amp, and , and, and...

Moral of the story: Research everything on subs that you can. Learn what RMS is and Xmax and dual voice coils and all that good stuff. Then go to shops and compare with one of your favorite CDS... prefferably something you've listened to a thousand times. Then when you hear something you never heard in the music, you go "damn! that's a good sub!". Just my 2 cents.
