Im going to get a system soon and I wanna know what ur guys opinion would be on what setup would hit best? 3 10s or 2 12s They would both be jl audios of the same category.

It really depends on your music tastes. You could roughly get 1 10W7 for the price of 3 10W3's....lesser space, not as heavy.

Or you could get 1 12W7 like me :D

Seriously, 2 12's run more effecient. Why would you want to use 3 10"s ???

Try 1 W7. You will love it..

Type of woofers are very immportant. If you are budget minded, look at Fosgate HE2's .. Good woofer... You won't need an HX2..

Get 2 12's

I'll tell you how, but you do the math yourself. First decide how much space you are willing to part with and the box type you want, sealed, ported, bandpass, aperiodic, etc. Then look at how much space the subs you are looking at will require for the enclosure style you chose. After that, look at surface area of the individual cones and X-max. Compute the volume of air that two twelves can move, compared to the volume three tens can move. Last look at the impedance of the two setups, and decide how you would amplify the two setups. Most JL 10's and 12's share a motor system so they can handle the same power. Therefore two twelves would require 2/3 the power.

I myself am a fan of 3-10's mylast two systems have been that way and so is my next (working on it). The 2 12's will be more effiecent so it depends on what kind of amp you are willing to put money into. I can power anything I want with my amp (pg *team* ms2250) so I will go with the 3-10s. it is louder and cleaner than the 12's (more cone surface), but will not hit the low-lows (~40 hertz) as well. You have my opinion, but do what you want. Good luck and have fun with it.

Yo are right about not hitting the lows but the 3 10's will play "Welcome to the jungle" pretty loud. It's all in what you like. Also, depends on the speaker. Yes the 12's have more surface area (on some speakers). Look at the newer high end 12's, the cone area is the same as the 10's (Fosgate HX2's for instance). The surround is also larger allowing for more excursion.

That's why I'm getting the JL Audio W7, it has over 3" of excursion and will hit a low 30 cycles easily...

I'll also have 1000w RMS powering it...

Again, it all depends on taste. I like Rap (for bass) and Bass CD's (Good ones) so I like the **** that vibrates your spleen out.

But, If I liked hard hitting percussion or something (which I do but it's not my preference), I'd go with a 10" setup (but it would have to be highly powered)...

Climax, sounds like you like rock?

Don't get me wrong I have deffinetly had my share of bass systems. I listen to everything and bass heavy systems just don't work for blues, classical, alot of techno, ect. I was and still am a basshead don't get me wrong, I just want a system with sq, that is my goal. and most sq systems use like four eights, but listening to rap and such I still need a little more lower end hence the tens, so clean or if I want to crank it up bassss. Basically the best of both worlds.

or you could do like a friend, have two tens and adding in a fifteen for the lowwwwwws. damn installers and thier funky setups, oops I forgot I am also, And I am also doing a funky setup, doh.:goofy:
