Screws 4 Knwd Rcvr n 97se;M5's don't work

I have searched everywhere for the right screws. My max came with the double-DIN CD cassette radio. I took the eight screws out of the fac and put the kenwood DIN radio and the pocket in place and the M5 screws don't fit in the Kenwood. The picture in the Kenwood manual shows screws that look like M5's (8 mm long and 5 mm wide) but the threads in the screw in the picture are not as fine as the M5's that came out of the fac. Kenwood acts like they're clueless as to what I need. I don't have the original screws cause I took this radio out of my old 87 sentra and the install people must not have given me all the hardware back that I did not need at the time. Anybody know what I can do? Right now I'm just going to go to (gasp) circuit city and ask for some screws they might have layin around. Anybody have any they could mail to me????? I need to be able to put the face back on my radio without pushing it into the dashboard!!

Are you talking about the screws that go into the Kenwood unit? If so, you can get them directly from Kenwood. I have a Kenwood unit also, and I had to drill new holes into the bracket, because the mounting holes from the head-unit did not line up with the bracket.

I'm talking about the screws that actually hold the head unit in place. What kind of kenwood receiver do you have that could make you need to drill holes in the bracket? The holes in the same chassis that holds the original fac radio line right up with the holes in the radio. At least in the 97. But the same screws do not work. Did your car come with a DIN or double-DIN sized radio? Either way the chassis or bracket holding all that stuff should have the same screw holes. I have called Kenwood cause I went to the parts sites the Kenwood site refers you to and they have no pictures and a lot of that stuff is like 30 bucks. When I called them they didn't know jack. Maybe I should try to get to a technician instead of the people answering the phone. But on the site, there's nothing called a screw set or anything.

Actually, I have two seperate, full size din units in my dash. I have the Kenwood KRC-605 (cassette receiver) and the KDC-D300 (in dash CD unit). I have a '95 Max and the CD unit fit perfectly when I removed the pocket, but the head unit's mounting holes did not line up with the brackets. This is why I had to drill new holes. Have you tried Radio Shack? They are usually good at selling some hardware for car-stereo. Or maybe, try a hardware store and find some metric bolts/screws.

Is the screw head size m5, or thread diameter? Also consider that most nuts, bolts, and screws are available with fine thread and course thread. Go to a hardware store, take the receiver in with you and find the screw size you need. Lowes, or Home Depot may have them. Otherwise you might have to go to place with better hardware selection. But they should at least have a tool to measure the threading/diameter.
