(btw, edgeracing.com has some AWESOME deals on wheels/tires until Jan 2nd!!) There must be overstock in this particular size, they were marked down to $169 (compared with $200 for same size in a 43 offset)

17x8 35 offset, 17lbs

Those are nice...

That's exactly what I have in mind for my next track wheels when the time comes, but I want to get them in Hyperblack instead (they will hide brake dust better :D ) . I just hope they clear the 300ZX calipers that im planning on to. :nervous:

Nissan 6 12-27-2005 09:47 PM

Team 5zigen always makes nice wheels

mtrai760 12-27-2005 10:01 PM

I had those on my 240, nice choice :D

DrKlop 12-27-2005 10:26 PM

nice!

BTW: why are they better than Enkei RPO2 for $105? (I'm probably buying them, and that's the reason I asking)

they should clear...if they dont you shouldnt need a very large spacer at all...spoke clearance looks good

no idea.....I've always heard good things about the 5zigens, and I wanted dark-colored wheels for the track, since I'm too lazy to clean them. I don't know much about the RPO2, but the RPO1's have a good rep.

Though performance and fit were the top factors, I like the looks of these better than the RPO2, at least on my black maxima....

I was extremely tempted by the RPO2 deal, but did not succumb. Will probably get those SFCs with you and then try to find some light, beater 17s on eBay or the .Org classifieds in the spring.

There're still two days left and I'm all confused if I should really get them...
If I will buy them, I won’t be able to buy SFC and LTB2, at least not in the next five months. .

You never know with cheap rims... they may or may not work out for auto-x. I've seen many bent Rotas from auto-xing, yet just as many who have used Rotas with no issues whatsoever. Did you look into Mike's RPO1s? He's auto-xed those with no issues and he's offering a pretty decent deal.

I think they're only cheap because they're 50% off, though....regular price is just a bit less than my 5Zigens :gotme:

He’s selling them only with tires but I don’t really want to buy his tires.

True, Enkei is a big enough name that we shouldn't have to worry about durability issues I guess. Low prices to me are a sign of low demand, so it just makes me wonder why.

same reason we put HUGE markdowns on certain perfectly good skis at our ski shop.....either manufacturers are selling "end-of-season" models at rock-bottom prices, or they made a BIG buy and didn't sell as many as they thought...etc. Perhaps there is a new RPO2 coming out and they want to move these out :gotme:

Then again, there are also "promotional pricing"...for example, I hear that Falken is giving huge kickbacks to Falken dealers for selling the new Azenis 615s, so the dealers are selling them for $1 above "cost", and then getting reimbursed for the profit from Falken.

could be the same thign going on here :gotme:

Damn nice rims.. I am lookin for something slightly different though and I was wondering if someone could suggest something. I like the look of that rim but I would want a silver or light gun metal color (not a chrome though) and I am lookin for an 18x8 thats lightweight and durable for a decent price. I love the 5 spoke design though.
For some reason I love the look of darker rims on other cars but I couldent bring myself to buy them even though brake dust would be much easier to handle.

Check out the RPO2s that we're talking about:

$125 per wheel right now, but its ending soon.

Those rims are cheap, light and good lookin, (although if I was being picky I would pick thicker spokes) Almost seems too good to be true I wonder if they break easily or something.

These rims look sick but at almost 3 times the price and more weight I dont think I could justify it, but they do look a lot more sturdy.

Those G35 wheels look pretty heavy I wonder how much difference running these lightweight rims would make just in acceleration by cutting down so much on reciprocating mass.

no, the G 18's will still be my daily driver wheels
the G 17's, which have my snow tires on them now, will be winter-only
the 5Zigens will be for the track only.

well...that IS the general idea....I'm not buying them for looks, I'm buying them because they're 7.5 lbs lighter than the G35 17's.

wow thats 7.5 x 2 drive wheels makes 15 lbs x 8 comes out to the equivilent of taking 120lbs of dead weight out of the car. Thats like a small passenger

DrKlop 12-30-2005 03:48 PM

Don’t want to bring up that old discussion but since the car has to make all 4 wheels rotating (assuming the law of conservation of energy) it's actually 7.5*4*8 = 240 lbs difference

yeah thats a very rough estimate and though technically the non drive wheels are included too I only include weight on the drivetrain

Those wheels are hot. But they look a bit different on 5Zigen's website.

Compare...

The ones you got:https://www.edgeracing.com/images/wh...angle_zoom.jpg

From 5Zigen's site:http://www.5zigenusa.com/images/whee...rc_bro_600.jpg

The second one looks more aggressive since the spokes come back to meet the center, as opposed to just being flat. Maybe the width/offsets has to do with it?:gotme:

DrKlop 01-05-2006 03:54 PM

I think it depends on the offset....
and the angle the picture was taken from.:hide:

look at the bolt pattern....the 5x114.3 are out farther and give it that "aggressive" look - mine look just like the second pic (just got them yesterday). the top pic are a 4x100 bolt pattern, a little more inset.

Ooooooooo sweet. Even better. Congrats man. These rims are hot hot hot. I'm gonna be scooping up a set in 18x8.5 in a few months.

Post some damn pics then.... I know all you're doing is sitting there on the .Org anyways.... :D

TurDz 01-14-2006 03:43 PM

It's definately the offset that makes the "sunken spoke" look. These wheels are very popular on zilvia.net, seems like 50% of owners have the FN01RCs.

The reason they were probably on sale was the offset. The offsets that are most popular are the high ones (40's+) for Hondas, or low ones (10-20mm) for 240SX and rear drive cars.

In the example below, you can see what offset does to the mounting position of the lugs/studs (set deeper into the wheel, i.e. low offset).

https://img508.imageshack.us/img508/...ture0749na.jpg

https://img508.imageshack.us/img508/...ture0832of.jpg

irish44j 01-14-2006 06:51 PM

yeah, I figured that offset was not a popular one, since really only G35s and 350Zs really use a 35 offset in an 18x8.... in any case, it's precisely the offset I wanted, so I'm happy I found a "deal" ;)

97SEdriver 01-16-2006 04:54 AM

I really like those wheels on the 240, they look great. I have 2 questions though, why is the 240 in GS, and why have I always beaten them? I have to assume that the handle better than a 4dr family sedan, with or without the VQ. I drove one years ago, but haven't been in one lately, any opinions?

irish44j 01-16-2006 07:21 AM

Can't speak for modded 240s, but a good friend of mine had a stock 240 (must have been a mid-90s model) and I drove it alot....it was a fun car, but impossible to keep the tail end in line, even on dry streets (it was like a hockey puck on wet streets). I guess the weight distro is really bad on the 240 (reminds me of my Triumph)....

irish44j 01-16-2006 07:25 AM

by the way, don't those tires seem a little narrow for the rims? just askin' for curb rash, that's for sure.

:gotme: whatever....I like the car and the rims, but having those little skinny tires on wide rims just looks :007: IMO.
