For years now 4th gen Civics have dominated the STS solo class. Somehow Jason Rhoades has figured out how to beat them using his 240SX.

P.S. Jason Frank's Civic was leading STS by .7sec after day one but was protested for removing sound deadening material and thus DSQd moving Rhoades to the lead.

Sad day for Nissan Motorsports in autocrossing. Looks like Carter Thompson may have thrown in the towel with Nissan and gone over to the Mazda dark side in an RX-8 this season.

I'm a bit surprised, personally, as I haven't exactly heard rave reviews of RX8s from a few guys who autocross them locally. They all say things like "it is a fun autocross car, but can never be really great..."

I dunno either. Met him only once at a Tour. Nationals last year he was only .1 sec out of 1st place for two-days combined. That seems pretty competitive to me and just a coin flip who comes out on top. Just found this pic of him down there.

yeah, those vettes are truly "grassroots" racing. Nothing like spending $20k on "grassroots" mods for your Z06.

Actually it's a C4... they only spent a few grand on the car, but they've dumped another 10k into it.

Then again, for the guys that go for REAL racing, 10k for a track toy is nothing... I've been looking at buying a GT2 S14 or a z32 recently.. they go anywhere from $35k to 75k. :eek: but again, those are real race cars.. GRM is more of a 'how to race your beater' mag.

I was just being generally sarcastic. But I'm pretty sure GRM has had Z06s and Vipers on the cover over the last couple of years. IIRC there was a viper on the cover of the "track attack" issue last year. that's what I meant about "yeah, real grassroots." Those aren't exactly beaters. I mean, the "Family Haulers" issue had a track-ready STi on the cover, for chrissake. At very least they could have put an Audi A4 wagon or a "family-type" car on the cover for that issue. I've sure never seen an STi with a baby seat in it....

Put one of the very quick Volvo 240 "turbobricks" that I've seen run at some events.....now that is "grassroots motorsports"

I just finished reading that GRM article on the national 240sx...it sure did suprise quite a few people! but if you look at the car, they have so many things we will never have available for our cars which would be nice, like lightweight, fully adjustable suspension links for virtually every piece or part of their suspension...

I have those for my 3 gen... :)

but also realize adjustable suspension parts like that are illegal for STS. Thus he's not running much of what's out there.

well I was just speaking from what is in the GRM article pictures...some of those weren't adjustable but rather just lightweight replacement components which help a lot in the unsprung weight category...!

Actually he's ADDED a decent amount of weight to the suspension. mostly with all that blue paint/powdercoating.

the only parts that aren't stock are the bushings and camber arms, which are stamped/rolled sheet metal from the factory.. they're extremely light from the factory. the ones on his car probably weigh 50-100% more than stock. the rest of the suspension under the car is all stock.

The whiteline/energy suspension bushings can be made by anyone that can machine urethane. considering the few bushings used on the Maxima, you could custom make a few for the rear for cheap BUT ES now makes most of the bushings for it.

of course the 240 has a much better suspension design than the minivan suspension you guys get, but still..
