what's a good tire shiner?

Armor all  just doesn't do it for me. I like the wet look.

Sqard Sep 18, 2003 04:34 AM

Meguiar's Hi endurance is pretty good if you want the wet look, plus it smells like grapes

Don't use stuff like Black magic Tire wet...bad silicone will dry out your tires and ruin them.

I use 3m Rubber Treatment and tire dressing. It's not the wettest looking, but I think it looks classier than having greaseballs for tires. I also find it doesn't look like there's this sharp cutoff at the top of the tire...I dunno I like it and it's good for your tires.

Another good choice would be Vinylex by Lexol. I use that on my tires and they turn out nicely. It leaves more of a natural matte finish as does 303.

the turtle wax wet n black tire shine is decent

If you want a spray-on tire foam (just make a wheel shield out of cardboard) I've noticed the No Touch High Shine (red can) is pretty darn shiny. Too shiny for my tastes actually. They also make a product called Wet & Protect I think(?) which is in a purple can and is supposed to be even shinier!

Silcone will not ruin rubber, that is just an old myth. A solevent based tire dressing will not only last longer then a water based dressing, it will also give you more gloss.

the formula 2001 stuff is great, big green bottle cant miss it

What's the best tire dressing that wont spray off the tires and onto my car?

asu174 Sep 20, 2003 11:32 AM

Turtle Wax Tire Wax hasn't spun off on me yet. I love that stuff.

I have tried Black Magic gel, Meguairs Endurance, etc, etc and none of them touch tire wax.

Y2KSESteve Sep 20, 2003 11:38 AM

Turtle Wax Tire Wax it is. I trust just about everything Andy recommends when it comes to cleaning. Your car is always looking good. :drool1:

Redsand187 Sep 20, 2003 03:49 PM

If it is spinning off, you are applying too much. You should lightly wipe off the excess dressing on the tires after applying.

Put a light amount on. Wait 5 minutes and wipe excess amounts off with a clean towel.

Important: When you go to reapply, try to scrub off the old stuff with a degreaser and tire brush, otherwise it will build up and look nasty and also spin off.

I always wipe off the excess. It always ends up on the side of my car no matter what I use.

asu174 Sep 21, 2003 05:51 AM

Let me know what you think of it after you try it. Make sure to clean them off really good to get all of the other crap off before putting your first coat on.

Use an applicator to put it on your tires..This way it goes on nice and even, and you actually save some wasted spray in the time being...

Nope, not an old myth.

I was trying to post a link to a thread on autopia...it's down right now though.

Oh, and the best way to apply tire dressings is with a paintbrush...rags and all that are SUCH A PAIN IN THE *** and give crappy coverage. The paintbrush gets in all the little places with no trouble at all...

Paintbrush, or those Eagle One tire swipes, which are kind of like a contoured foam brush anyway.

PS: People would have to logged in Autopia members to read a thread there. ;)

Let's not start talking about "silicones" since no one knows what variety, and there are many, they're exactly dealing with at any given time anyway. :p

I personally like Meguiar's High Endurance for shine and durability, but I keep all my car care stuff in my trunk and it doesn't do so well in the summer heat. The stuff completely separates like spoiled milk and no amount of shaking will mix it back up, so it becomes worthless. Has happened to me with two different bottles.

My next favorite is Black Magic...similar to Meguiar's but doesn't separate.

Have been discussing 303 with others here lately, but haven't tried it yet.

I would agree except that I had a tire die and I believe one contributing factor was silicone since the sidewall tore away from the bead WAY before it should have. Why use the stuff at all when there are products that are just as good without it? The thread on autopia actually did describe the exact type of silicone that was good and the one tht was bad...I should go dig for it again.

Meguiar's Endurance has a gloss and a non gloss. I prefer the non gloss (natural look) and it lasts quite a while. Easy to use.

bigcozz Sep 25, 2003 10:04 AM

Eagle one is KING

Eagleone tire shine is the king....They also make curved applicator sponges so you wont get any overspray on your rims.....Turtle was should stick to wax....
