What's The Better Wax For The Max

What's the better wax for Mr. Max ?

MaxSE03 Dec 31, 2003 07:45 AM

There are a lot of topics on this in the detailing forum: http://forums.maxima.org/forumdisplay.php?f=69

My favorite Wax at the moment is Pinnacle Souveran. I just bought some Blackfire products and will give it a try in the near future.

I am a huge fan of Zaino. That stuff is absolutely incredible. It couldn't be much easier to apply and remove and the stuff lasts forever. You only need to apply it about twice a year and you can apply a new coat right on top of the older ones and it just gets better. You can look at it at www.zainostore.com.

I perfer zymol. Nothing beats the mirror shine it provides. The only downside is that you have to reapply every 3 mths to keep that mirror shine,

PAPA SMURF Dec 31, 2003 08:11 AM

your poll is lacking in quality choices, IMO

add Klasse and Zainos

and I am a diehard Klasse user

Finish First... very easy to put on (just wipe on) and very easy to take off (just wipe off) ... no rubbing, no buffing, VERY durable.

I've tried Zymol in the past but didn't really care for it. If you can find it for a good price, you should give Pinnacle Souveran a try on your black Max. You can layer it as many times as you want and it looks better every time. Here is a pic with a #7 Meguiar's Polish and a one coat of Souveran.

She looks good man. Nothing looks better than a clean black car...but they dont stay clean for long. I had a black Z28 before my Maxima. I am interested to see how the Gray Lustre cleans up with a coat of wax...

skandalouz Dec 31, 2003 09:37 AM

i hear Zaino works wonders. i use meguiar's gold myself. once my meguiars runs out i'm planning on getting some zaino (costs a lot tho).

NCTRNL Dec 31, 2003 09:38 AM

The Zaino costs a lot to get started, but once you have it, it lasts for a LONG time. Just make sure when you buy it to buy a lot of car wash and the Z6 spray detailer. That is the stuff that you run out of. The wax lasts a long time because you hardly use any of it.

Blackfire

I've been through the lot of them, Mothers, AutoFOM, Zaino, Zymol, Griots Garage Best of Show Wax etc.

To this day, the protection from the Blackfire products has been untouched. The shine is just remarkable as well, but I won't claim that the shine is untouchable, but its definitely up there with the more expensive stuff.

The protection is unparalleled, though. I park my car on the streets of New York City. With no garage or driveway, the car is constantly bombarded by birds, rain, snow, dust etc. Blackfire has held up strong with beading for about 6 months now. I would definitely do it more than twice a year.

Here's some pics of Blackfire on a Pearl White max, which is a very hard color to get a good reflection out of:

Looks Good! I can't wait to give it a try. I did apply some on my wheels today and they turned out great.

Truthfully, it depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you are looking for gloss, but not as much durability, then carnuba waxes like Pinnacle Souveran, Pinnacle Paste Glaz, One Grand Blitz, Meguiar's #26, and S100 will fill the bill nicely. But if you are looking for durability, then you should go with a polymer like Zaino, Klasse, Blackfire, or the new Meguiar's NXT.

sorry to drag up an "old" thread but I had something I wanted to add to PrinzII's comments.

There is a process that is talked about on Detailing forums where you layer different kinds of waxes. Start with a durable polymer wax like zaino, klasse, etc and then add the carnuba wax on top of that for the gloss. The trick is that you have to let the polymer wax "cure" on the car for a day or so before adding the carnuba.

For the details, look for the "Perfect Shine" articles on http://www.nissancarcare.com and http://www.autopia.org

BTW, I plan to add some new products to my arsenal including Menzerna, Gliptone, Meguiar's NXT, Zaino Z12, Einszett.....to name a few.

When I bought my car, there were pen marks all over the leather interior. I bought Gliptone's "GlipStik" whick essentially looks like chapstick for your leather interior. It's made specifically for removing pen marks from leather. I was really skepticall but figured what the hell. It worked REALLY WELL. Best $0.99 i ever spent for my car.

Sorry to go OT, but I saw PrinzII mention Gliptone and I had to comment.

3 months from Zymol? You MUST own a Garage and live in a warm/nice climate.

Right now I'm using Klasse.

I swear by Meguiar's products....their carnubas are great!...

housecor Jan 6, 2004 06:43 PM

How strange. All these Zaino fans on this thread, but I posted a wax poll like this (but with a lot more options) a few weeks ago and didn't get a single vote for Zaino. Where were you guys? :grinno:

Here's the poll:

Oh, almost forgot: I prefer Pinnacle Paste Glaze over Klasse AIO:

I concur. I haven't tried a whole lot of others, but I have had such good success with the Meguiar's stuff, I have not wanted to try others. I use the 3-step system (1. deep, crystal cut clear coat--gets out swirl marks or just cleans it really good.......2. Mirror shine polish Gives it that great shine.....3. Carnuba wax.) The bottles are maroon colored (or off-white sometimes), and have the one-two-three steps on them. It is great stuff! I can go longer than 3 months too. It lasts at least 5 or so months. In fact, the last time I waxed it was about five months ago, and there are still tons of beads when it rains.

Because of the ease of applying these products, the ease of taking them off, the results, and how easy it is to just rinse your car off once your have the Meguiar's stuff on there....Meguiar's has my vote!!! You should try it out. They are cheap too***only about $5 per bottle of the 3-step.

This was the infamous 8 hr detail I often mention. I spent the better part of a Saturday doing the following to my '02 a month after I got it:

Washed with Gold Class
Clayed Body and Rims with Clay Magic
Polished Exhaust Tips with Eagle One Nevr Dull
Polished AE Door Sills with Nevr Dull
Vacuumed interior
Cleaned interior glass with Stoners Invisible Glass
Cleaned dash and other vinyl with Lexol Leather Cleaner
Treated dash and other vinyl with Lexol Vinylex

End Result:
