Yes. Oxidation on the outer lense cover is what we are solving here. Moisture/corrosion on the INSIDE of the lense requires disassembly/cleaning/resealing.

It's pretty easy, I've always just used 3m rubbing compound with a buffer on them.. you just have to be real careful. I didn't feel like getting all that out this past weekend so I stopped by walmart and picked some of this up. It's on the aisle where all the household cleaners are, it's like $2.50 for a bottle. It'll last you forever.

I tried this and I must admit that mine didn't turn out as well as the OP, but it is a vast improvement. Maybe it had to do with the fact that my headlights were in very very bad shape. They are much clearer now, but still quite yellow.

I used the Plastic X today and it took less than 3 minutes to do both headlights. My headlights were nowhere near as bad as the I30's though.

The next step for you may be a wetsand (there is a how-to) and be sure to apply a wax after as you will have sanded the original coating off.

I wonder if a rubbing or polishing compound would also work? Or would those be too abrasive?

yo bro, good job on the heads, look brand new. I think ima try instead of r34's.

Love how they tried to make this an age issue, i mean ur 22 not 15 lmao. Im only 19, but theres ppl here who actually start working when they're legally able and spend their money wisely, im also a student (but a full scholarship helps) lets keep this about headlights

I love Brasso, the stuff never leaves my detailing supplies.

My dad got into a little accident and they had to replace one of the headlights. The difference between the two was nuts, one was brand new and the other, well was, dull/yellow/ and nearly opaque haha. Well I used a relatively liberal amount of Brasso (1.5-2.5 tablespoons) over the whole course of one headlight along with some shop towels. It took about 15 mins of hard buffing/scrubbing but the finished product looked just as good as the brand new headlight.

I never have sealed it with a wax but I think I'm going to try that out when I get home from campus. This stuff is amazing. I'll put up compare pics when I get back.

Bumping this thread for future reference. I am selling my GFs maxima and about 5 months ago she had to replace one of the headlights.. now they dont match so this is a perfect solution.

What wax?

Any suggestions on which wax to use? in regards to after this of course. Man I love the Org. this is the 4th project I'm tackling tonight. I was about to begin sanding, until I stumbled onto this. Its 1:00am here, and I'm leaving to go to Walmart to get me some Brasso, before I put my Fog's back in place from bulb swap. ha... great suggestion

Follow up

So I had my wet-Sanding kit all ready to go, read this thread than headed to wal-mart about 4 hours ago and picked me up the brasso. Finished up my other projects on my 00, including a successful MAF clean and spend about 45 minutes on each headlight, and 15 on each fog... The fogs didn't have too much of a difference, except for I got rid of the "yellow" (that was the mission), BUT.... The headlights. Night and day difference. They look brand spanking new after I tweeked out on them with a sponge. I need a new can of elbow grease. So bad ***.... am I glad I stumbled on this thread at the right time. Awesome post!!!!!!!

What about Fog Lights? I installed the Yellow Lexus Capsules by cutting the fog light housing in half - big mistake. I had all the right tools and compounds to seal it up tight again, but it doesn't seem to be working. The outside of the fogs are fairly pitted from stones/debris, and the insides are always covered with condensation.

Any Suggestions?

Ive used a kit from AutoZone that worked great. It came with several foam pads (sticky backing on one sids, foam sand paper/buffer on the other). Also came with a drill bit with a flat/round end to stick the pads to. Directions say to keep headlight wet with a spray bottle while buffing. I used it on my mom's car and it worked great - took off ALL of the yellow and smoothed out the chips from rocks/bugs.

Sorry so late, but I did actually look at the box that the lense cleaner came in. Its called 5 Minute Optical Cleaner - made specifically for plastic vehicle lenses. Its in a gray box and the "5 Minute Optical Cleaner" type is yellow. It comes with 6 pads, and 1 pad lasts quite a while.

Note: This will seriously F up your paint job if you touch the pad to paint while you've got the pad spinning on the drill, so be careful!

Hey, first of all, great tip and great set of headlamps. Can brasso be bought at any auto store? Also, can this be used inside the headlamp to take care of moisture and corrosion?

Thanks.

Did it to the GFs car because her other headlight is brand new so it doesnt match and it still isnt close to matching.. It worked for me but deff no where near as well as it did on the OPs car. I used damn near half the bottle on that one headlight too
