If you work on your own car, I hope you don't buy headlight "cleaners"

Because you have everything you need already, at least for plastic headlights I haven't tried this on glass headlights.

If you work on your own car you most likely have some type of abrasive hand cleaner:

You also most likely detail your own car, so you already have some type of wax.

So lets start here with some pretty filthy plastic headlights.

Put a good amount, I use three to four pumps, of your hand cleaner on a sponge and apply in a circular motion to your headlights. Then rinse them off and dry.

Then, using the wax of your choice, apply a good coat of wax in small circular motions and allow the wax to "haze" up.

Then remove the wax, again in small circular motions.

Finished product.

This process takes all of five minutes, taking your time doing one headlight at a time. Do them at the same time and it's like a two minuet process.

And I know, now I have to go wash/detail the whole car.

It's still a little hazy, but much better nonetheless.

"A" for creativity and money saving

phatboislim 07-28-2008 12:06 PM

THAT HAND CLEANER MAY HELP W/ THE LITTLE BIT OF HAZE LEFT ON MINE..BUT BTWN BRASSO, RUBBING COMPOUND, AND WAX...MINE LOOKS BETTER THAN THAT. NICE WRITE UP THO

OhOhMax 07-28-2008 12:11 PM

The only reason it is not crystal clear is because I haven't done this in about eight months. I usually do this at least once a month and then they are "crystal" clear. But anyways, just another way to clean your headlights... and not have to spend money specifically on cleaning your headlights. :)

phatboislim 07-28-2008 12:19 PM

DEFINITELY A GOOD WRITE UP I'M NOT KNOCKING WHAT U DID HOMIE.

OhOhMax 07-28-2008 12:28 PM

Of course I could have taken far away pics like a lot of people do and have been like look at my CRYSTAL CLEAR headlights, lol...

Thanks for an easy beginner guide to cleaning headlights, I will try this tomorrow when it stops raining :(

who needs an alarm when you have a dog like that standing right next to your car:goofy: nice dog and good stuff, i use the same cleaner to get oil and and dirt off my hands after workin hard on the car

SEmy2K2go 07-30-2008 02:34 AM

Not bad still some haze left. If you don't have any hand cleaner or anything of the sort like that. Grab some toothpaste it works just as well, and I hope everybody has toothpaste in the house somewhere!

g35er 08-08-2008 03:54 PM

try some menzerna intensive polish...will leave them like new

KRRZ350 08-08-2008 05:49 PM

I'm still a fan of 1500 grit wetsanding them, than using a very mildly abrasive compoundand buffing the shlt out of them followed by a wax. But nonetheless NIOICE JOB MANG!

That's what I use. Works great. Actually did my Grandad's and aunt's headlights with it tonight. If the lights are real knarly I'll rock em with some Menzerna Power Gloss.

feli30x 08-08-2008 09:29 PM

I detail my own car but I don't do any mechanical work on it, so I don't have the giant bottle of hand cleaner. I hope I don't have to buy a gargantuan bottle just for a set of headlights...

^^^Brasso and Plastic X both work really well too. But I think the point of this thread is that you don't need to go out and buy this stuff if you already have all these "common" products available.

Kevin319 08-10-2008 08:52 PM

will the turtle wax ICE work on the headlights?
