Hard water spots

Well I came out from work on Monday and walked up to my car to see that the sprinklers had gone off and the hard water baked into the car. I was pissed to say the least... I didnt even drive it to work on Tuesday, I was so devastated.

Here is one shot of the trunk when I got home from work, just to give you an idea.

The first thing I did was clay bar the entire car, I had just done this 2 weeks before, but it will help remove the hard water spots before I start buffing. Then on to swirl remover and polish and sealant. Took me a total of about 6hrs to do the whole car. I am happy with the results, you can still see just a little bit of rings on the trunk and hood, I will going over it again this weekend. I am a neat freak.

Products I used

You know you parked under the sprinklers so you have an excuse to detail the car. haha

What is clay bar? Sorry guys, wife just parked by the dam sprinklers again and I'm tired of trying to get the water spots off. Any help?

It's literally a bar of clay.

This should help:

The only additions I would make are that I usually start with a third to a half of a bar, and that this a step BETWEEN washing and polishing/sealing. Oh - and that you will usually get much more material off of the horizontal surfaces than the vertical ones. Too much lube is better than not enough.

i hate my water bc of that. what do you do when you wash it? I hate having to try and dry it asap so it does get all spotty. I usually just QD it unless doing the full detail including polish.

i hate it when that happens, especially if its a hot summer day.. well, i acid wash my car at work if that tends to happen.. But you have to really cool the car down before and you have to really learn how to acid wash before doing so, if not, you can really burn the paint of your car... I work as a detail guy for nissan,toyota,honda.. IM GLAD I GET TO USE THE EQUIPMENT FOR FREE!! : ) .. I HATE WATER SPOTS THOUGH!!

your car came out really clean though, good job!!! hope my advice helps also?? lol : )

* the only way i know thats really effective for getting rid of water spots is acid washing *

so i suggest researching about it first...

yea, i am a detailer aswell, and acid washing is the most effective way to remove those hard-water spots with ease. at the shop we charge a good amount of money for this service, if the only know how easy is it to reomve them.

I would have bought a bag of shrooms and spent hours staring at that instead of cleaning it.

NismoMax80 03-17-2010 09:36 PM

i bought a mr. clean autodry cheap off amazon... so will see if it really filters the water for rinsing....
