White BMW E30- Lots of pics, but need your help with paint

Well my buddy bought an E30 for a cheap auto-x car, and while he was doing some work on my car I wanted to see if my supplies could do anything to his horrid paint. We're not sure if it's the stock paint or not, but either way it's the worst I've ever seen that still has (I assume) clear coat.

Basically, I did a test on the hood to see if I could make any progress, and was pretty disappointed. I washed, clayed, washed, and hit it with the UDM, orange pad (2nd harshest) and Menzerna Intensive Polish (medium). I don't own the Power Gloss yet, but I'm thinking I may have finally found a use for it.

Here are the weird black spots all over the paint that never really came out (with wet paint):

Weird "cracks" in the paint (wet paint).

And basic fading (dried out now):

Now I've worked with bad paint before....see THIS LINK but this was a different story. Here's what it looked like after 2 coats with the IP:

I did the center section last and tried to get real good before after pics, so here's the center of the hood:

Yeah, so it was basically like polishing a turd. Aside from a rotary (too scary), what else can I do for this paint? Would wet sanding help or is it just too far gone? Would stepping up to a more aggressive polish like Menzerna Power Gloss do anything?

Nice try on it. The bad thing is, the "before" pics don't convey how bad it really is (was).

Any other forums where you can post for advice and I can follow as a spectator?

I think pics 2+3 tell the story

I tried to post over on autopia but their servers are awful and wouldn't let me post...I'll try again later.

I don't think paint will hinder his times.

No, it won't. But I intend to do some paint repair to stop the rust. In the mean time, we wanted to see if there were any panels that could be saved.

That thing is messed up. A rotary w/ wool pad wouldn't even touch that. Repaint is the only thing that would make it somewhat presentable. Nice try anyways.
