Steering Wheel Is Peeling
Hi guys i was wondering if I could do anything about this or if anyone knows if it is possible to to get new leather put on professionally and maybe how much it would cost. What type of shop am i looking for? I'm trying to avoid putting on a cheap steering wheel cover. I want it to look better than that. Any Suggestions?
Thanks!! http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5152/6...2bc5d9b149.jpg |

Thanks!! Another option is to find a replacement steering wheel cheap and sending it out to get redone, and then installing the new wheel. This will keep you from having down time if the wheel was off the car, unless you have a second car to drive while it's done. I did a Google search and this was the first link I found of a place out in California that specializes in interior work and restoration. http://convertibletoprepairinstall.c..._wheel_re-wrap |
Thanks for the Advice, I really appreciate it! So i inquired a few auto upholstery shops about my issue and sent them the same photo I posted and the guy told me that they don't need to re-wrap the wheel but just DYE it... I didn't think a Dye could do that but the only thing Ive ever dyed before was an Easter egg! lol. have you ever heard of that before? I was thinking about doing it myself, I found this website that has some DYE kits, looks like the cater to BMW but maybe i can find one that matches. What do you think, Should i even try it or just pay the $120 dollars and have a PRO do it.

Get a wheelskins wrap for $55 clams and call it a day.

I have the same exact issue. I had a wheel skin and I hated it. It made the wheel a lot thicker and it wasn't that aesthetically pleasing.
Let me know if you find any kit that is actually worth while. |
You can have leather redyed, but it usually doesn't hold up. I wouldn't bother doing that.
Also, the leather in those areas are worn, which is why it looks like that. Having the worn areas dyed just doesn't hold up. |
you can take that to a professional upholstery shop, and they do a good re wrap for you for under $200, depending on what you ask them to do to it (eg. material, color, colors....) or go to the junk yard and find a good one to take off of a car. Will be cheaper and factory look.

Unless you are willing to drop an insane amount of money at the dealer to get a new steering wheel (IF they can order it from you), it's never going to look the same as it did originally.
Your best bet is to re-wrap it yourself. You can get a wheel skin for a decent price (under $45) here: http://www.dccarcare.com/whlskns.html and get it close to the original color, or get a custom skin. These are the same skins from wheelskins.com, and for almost half the price. IMHO, it feels very nice in your hands - not that thick at all. I just re-did mine and here's how it turned out: Attachment 47406 |

Interesting... All AE's i've encountered have been manuals, and i've never seen one that was auto, so it threw me off.

Ugh mine is peeling too, luckily I've got black interior so it all matches together. Regardless, very annoying to deal with.
