Dyno Before & After 17 Degree Timing Advance

2002 Maxima 6 Speed (Mods in signature):

Finally got the dyno done today after I changed the timing from 15 degrees to 17 degrees using Cipher. Not much change in PEAK numbers (gained 4 ft-lbs on peak and HP stayed the same) BUT if you look at the midrange I picked up 10hp & 12 ft-lbs at 4100rpm over the last dyno.....torque increased some on the lower end too. I know I felt something!!

Nice man, I bumped mine to 17 on my old 03 but it was after i dyno'd it so i never got the chance to see what it did but i noticed the throttle response seemed better.

I thought 5.5 gens didn't hold the timing advance. It would retard itself after a few cycles making the 00-01's more successful in this field.

Thats not true...it will hold from 13 to 17 degrees of timing. Stock is 15.

this is somthing thats done with a consult right? anybody ever try it with a snap on soulus?

NmexMAX 12-17-2011 11:47 AM

Or with a Cipher from UpRev. The A32's wont hold it.

Nice. :ben:

I love before and after dynos. Its all about area under the curve ftw!

7speed 12-18-2011 06:16 PM

Thats whats up. True before and after dyno showing gains. This should clear up any doubts.

You can advance and retard timing with the Solus, but no, it will not stick. My friend tried to do it when he demoed the Solus last winter. It wouldn't stay no matter what we did.

Nice...:D

Grand_hustle17 12-20-2011 06:37 PM

hey great dyno, is it possible for you to confirm in 48hrs that the timing didnt retard itself??? ive advanced timing but it went back to stock after a few days

:sprint: I checked if it held on my old car when i bumped it with Cipher and it held.

Grand_hustle17 12-20-2011 08:55 PM

on mechanic said its possible it was still there but his obdII didnt pick up on it.... made no damn sense lls

NmexMAX 12-21-2011 11:13 AM

My timing's kept for years. 3 batteries, numerous ECU code resets, weeks without use, etc. I check it every now and then for the hey of it.

I just took my 11 to a local shop here today and ill tell you that a consult 2 doesnt work for the 7thgen. And yes these guys are nissan techs for 40 years.

How exactly do you ask a mechanic to advance your timing? Seems like no one has a clue as to what i'm talking about, and the ones that know are strongly against it. Where should i go to get this done?
