too damn bright

do not like the new style. at least let the user pick the preferred style.

Fishlet 10-20-2018 09:54 AM

Guess I can't read this site in bed anymore

i don't mind the style but I wish there was a banner. Now it just looks the same as any other site

Hectic 10-20-2018 03:32 PM

+1 for an option to change the style and colors. Dark blue scheme was the only reason I come here.

maxwannabenow 10-21-2018 10:41 AM

+1 to this too.. not maxima.org without the black/blue color scheme

not that my opinion counts since im hardly on here anymore but the old format was way better, it was far easier on the eyes. this white template looks like alot of "basic" 1-2 year old small forums whereas this place has been around almost 20 years

DanNY 10-22-2018 11:41 AM

it was suggested by IB and google that we move away from the darker theme.
i can check to see if we can bring back the dark theme but this is in line with IB's other forums.

As to the banner...there were complaints about the old banner waiting for the update. the updated banner that we got didn't work within the new sizing. not sure if that person that created the banner is still around sooooo anyone wants to make another banner and actually have it on the site let me know.

Other forums give the user a choice of forum style in the user cp.. don't know why that couldn't be the case here. Or is that the way it was before?

I don't see why Sameness is important here. Not everyone is going to use multiple IB sites, but if they did It seems even more important that they easily stand out from one another.

This light theme is hardly a brand, it's not the same as having some shared logo or symbol everywhere. It's quite generic, as this forum software is the same used on countless other sites.

I hope someone comes forth with a banner. If I had a lick of graphical talent I'd take a shot at it myself, alas I do not. Besides I'd probably be biased to the 8th gen :D

I’m just happy everything’s not in bold anymore.

flynlr 10-23-2018 05:06 AM

hurts my eyes. just give users a choice. I have been coming here since it started ..joined a bit later. I doubt you had complaints from members here about the color.

i think i've been coming here since it started.
let's see how this goes...if it's that bad then i'll ask IB to give users an option.

just checking to see what's off....there's a ton of grey, what is it that's too bright...the text boxes?

actually i know many that uses (or used to use) multiple sites.
it's not a brand per-se...is what google tells them that they should use and it also conforms with other sites. i don't pay the bills here so i can't call the shots on what happens but this is what IB recommends so let's see how it goes. i might ask to bring back dark theme as an option.

the home forum page isnt THAT bad but when you reply to a thread, my eyeballs are getting destroyed by all the bright white.

most forum/posting sites like 4chan, Reddit, etc have the "bright" theme standard and "dark" as a user option like the dark theme that used to be here and people almost always swap to the dark theme

ok fair enough...let me ask IB if they can give users the option.

ChrisMan287 10-23-2018 07:07 PM

I do miss the dark theme but it isn’t that bad at night. I do have my brightness turned all the way down and night time mode enabled as well.

Would be nice to at least have the dark dark theme as an option.

Darkwing48 10-30-2018 12:06 PM

Agreed on the theme.
Way back when I was studying Database Design, my professor wanted us to modify our own version of "phpBB" which looks alot like this forum and other forums. I couldn't think of a good reason why color theme could be hard to modify, but then again, it's be 10 years since I looked at that code.

Can these forum “tips” stop popping up every login?

Cookies are cleared usually here at work. At home not so much.

Maybe restrict it for new members only? Most know how to navigate forums to be honest.

i asked IB team to work it that. either shut it down or make it smarter.

Prophecy99 11-28-2018 09:34 AM
