What Kinda Oil You guys Use?
#1
I appologize if I am re-posting an old forum but I'm curious what kind of oil you guys use. I got my Maxima with about 15k miles and it has like 16k now, my moms boyfriend who helps me out with the car said I shouldnt use Mobil 1 or any synthetic brand because the car has been used for a small period of time. Currently I use Castrol GTX 10w-30 i believe...

Adam,
I am going to go ahead and speak for FloMax and say that he, like many of the folks on the board, uses Mobil 1 5w-30. It is expensive, but I think worth it. Jeff92SE has done studies on oil usage and I think would disagree with me though.

well...
up to 14K, castrol 5w-10 changes...
14k+ Mobile1 5w-30 (regular drain intervals due to short trips)
just think of the reasoning behind NOT changing until 10K... because your engine WONT breakin properly because the oil wont let your engine wear. think about it.....
exactly! I'd like to keep my engine in '10K condition' as long as possible. So after I felt the engine was pulling as strong as it was ever going to, I moved to syn to preserve that.
well, I'll actually let blackstone labs tell me if that is valid thinking on my next change.

Mobil 1
Mobil 1 only at 5w30 every 5000 highway miles. Your valve seats and combustion chamber are broken in within the 1st 2000-5000 miles under normal driving. After that, synthetic oil seems to last slightly longer and still looks cleaner at the next oil change. Three cars and none ever needed a single major repair. You can buy 5 quart container at Walmart for around 18.00.

Here's what I use . . .
In the fall, winter, and spring I use Mobil 1 10W30 and during the super hot weather in the summer time I use Amsoil 20W50 racing oil. I like the higher viscosity oil during the triple digit heat here in Texas.
