Any *tricks* to remove the oil filter? (w/o getting oil on hand)

So today I changed my oil, and again had a handful of hot old oil as soon as I removed the oil filter. I was wondering if you guys had any tips as to how to minimize the spillage. Although it doesn't bother me too much, but screwing on a new oil filter with a greasy hand is....slippery. And I know gloves could help, any other advice?

Have some heavy duty paper towels with you...I buy the blue ones at autozone...they pick up oil and grease like a charm....then invest in some Nitrile powder free gloves....they aren't that expensive IMO...Walmart has some for like $7 for 80 pairs...should last you for quite awhile

I dunno how you get oil on your hands? Cuz when I remove it, I twist it until I see oil drip from the tip of the filter...then I slowly twist and let all the excess come out (right before the filter is about to come out)...after that, I just remove it and turn it upside down onto the oil pan....no oil on my hands since the oil filter is upside down when I drop it

Well, I screw it off a little and the oil will start to drip. I guess I always get impatient and then start to unscrew more, then the filter falls down and out comes the oil!

Oh I see, I am broke too! Summer school + no internship this summer FTL!!! And ya, I guess I'll pass on the Cattman stuff since I think I'm pretty much done with my car for now as well. No money + new car for graduation is a strong motivation.

Thats cool...damn summer school goes by so quick

If I had a steady job right now, I'd part my car and sell it...then prob get an S2k...but I know that ain't happening anytime soon...so I'mma just part out the car...and chill in a stock max...and use the mod money for some other hobby in the meantime

loosen the filter until the gasket is barely touching the mating surface (not dripping yet), once youre there, you be at a pretty low spin effort. at that point, give the filter a good spin.

oil will drip/pour out, but usually not get on the filter, and youll have had your hand away for plenty of time. let the filter drain, then remove it the rest of the way.

don't be such a pansy. if you get oil on your hand, take a paper towel and wipe it off.
