Gas rumor...

When I used 87 (Once, by accident, no flaming necessary), my city mpg went from 24 to 17. The engine would groan under protest.
Some would call this "my imagination", but I know the difference. Only 93 for her now.

Oh no!!! Not another octane thread!!! We only get 91 here, but there are places that sell 100 octane. I "splash" my tank with about 5-6 gallons which bumps the octane up a couple of points.

Read your owners' manual on gasoline octane. This has all been covered in other threads on this site.
Bottom line: Nissan says to use 91 octane for maximum performance (you don't need higher octane unless you have modded the engine). They say that 87 octane is acceptable. I use regular (85 octane here in the mountains) and after 63 K miles, have no problems. There are many myths out there about gasoline octane. We don't need to keep them going.

I guess I can understand using 85 octane at mile-high elevation, but I would never consider using 87 octane at sea level where I live.
I use 90 octane 10% ethanol gasoline, marketed at 87 octane prices.
This gasoline is not the same as the ethanol gas made in the US.
I have had no issues using it and my fuel economy has not been compromised one iota, relative to using 89 octane or 92 octane Chevron gasoline.

here shell only sells 87, 89 and 91, only sunoco offers anytihng higher than 91 which is 94, but from what i read our 91 is good quality here in Toronto, and there is no need to go higher unless the car is boosted or the engine is otherwise heavily modified
