does changing the spark plug make a difference in the car???
how about changing after market engine oils, cuz my friend with a prelude did it to his and he said they cost the same as the ones from nissan

can anyone explain?

The maxima comes equipped with pretty damn nice platinum spark plugs, and the only possible upgrade would be to get the iridium ones, but it may not make much of a difference.

Also, I've read a few of the threads that have already been posted about oil type... people seem to think that synthetic oil is better for short trips, city driving, etc...and real oil is better for a longer commute.

I would probably stick with the oil recommended by the dealer

You won't need to change your spark plugs (yet), so no need to worry about them.

Synthetic is better no matter what, but you have to pay more for it. Go with synthetic if you can.

I have a feeling Bill or Jeff is going to put their $.02 in. :)

MobilOne, fully synthetic and a Wix oil filter if you can get one. 5W-30 if you live in a moderate enviroment. 10W-30 if you happen to live in extreme heat or cold conditions. I have heard 5W-30 covers a wider temperature range, but my dealer says 10W-30 is better for extremes in weather.

As I understand it, different weight has different temperature ranges. But Synthetic oil, compared to a conventional oil of the same weight, will offer a wider temperature range. It will also retain it's properties as the temperature reaches extremes of the range than conventional oil.

Synthetics are superior in every way to normal oil. One has to decide for themselves if the more expenseive synthetics are justified are not. But if you think about it, the longer drain intervals afforded by synthetics offsets their extra costs.

If you review the stickes, it has more information than you could understand.

My experience with my girl's Nissan 240 SX is to stick with stock NGK spark plugs and you won't have any problems...
For oil and filter, I've just recently switched over to Amoil fully synthetic 5W30 oil of the 1yr/25K mile version. Thanks a ton to Bill (fearless moderator) for hooking me up on the preferred customer info....I've used Mobil 1 synthetic on my first oil change 1700 miles and used it for 150k miles and counting on my 95 Ford Escort (don't laugh!) with absolutely zero mechanical problems. There is online evidence that Mobil's formulation has taken a step back compared against that of just a few years ago so I recommend Amsoil to anyone listening. My one question to Bill and other Amsoil users...why is the SDF filter smaller than stock or even the Mobil 1 synthetic filter? I'd think if it was even stock depth it would run even more circles around every other filter on the market.....Sorry so long!

At a Minimum run mobil1, I have heard of a number of people running some others now as well.

Ran M1 in my Integra GS-R (Just traded for a Sherwood Green GLE) and got 45K miles out of the car under VERY EXTREME driving conditions (Think 8000 rpm on a 110 degree day in TX) and had NO mechanical problems with the car.

Does the Amsoil extended drain interval affect a new car's warranty?
I've been looking at the Amsoil Series 2000 oil.

Extended drain intervals don't directly affect a new car warranty. Follow the oil company's recommendations and you should be fine. The only way a car company can deny a warranty claim is to prove that something (motor oil in this case) directly caused the problem you brought it in for. Many synthetic oil manufacturers would cover any costs associated with proof that their oil failed when used according to their specs.

I wouldnt run an extended drain without blackstone reports. the syn oil will last, but your filtration may not.

I agree completely....I plan to get an analysis at 5K miles and creep up 2K miles per analysis from there and see what happens. The analysis is the only way to know the state of your oil and air filters.....

What is a blackstone report and how do you get one?
I understand that the filter may need to be changed periodically even if extended drain synthetic oil is used.

all my dealer had was Castrol Syntex? Synthetic oil, any difference from Mobile 1 Synthetic?

Since we are on the oil subject... Hogan changed mine. Mobil 1 synthetic 5w30. 1HP gain. It was black a$$ hell.
