If you search the forum, you will see a lot of suggestions and will probably get an answer for your question. Also, it would be nice if you provide more info about your vehicle. That way, people can give you suggestions based on the information you provide.

As for synthetic, I use it and a lot of people use it too. One important reason is because you can conveniently do extended OCI. And also, it is believe it cleans and protects better than dino.

Why were you using 10W30? All you need is 5W30 or 0W30 is you use AMSOIL

+1 on that - Amsoil for sure
I have been using it since I hit 100k (about 65000 miles) You will not regret if you go that route bud

Also depends on your climate. I use 15w 50 http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...1_15W-50_.aspx . I live in Hawaii and run my car hard. Works great. Cold climate 5w 30 is probably good. 10w 30 for warm and 15w 50 for hot. Also the type of oil makes a huge difference. I am going to be putting in 10w 30 Castrol Edge when I get my oil cooler kit installed. In about a week I hope depending on shipping. I will let you know how that is. I think when you were told about changing your oil, maybe they meant just to change it out and not change the type. Oil will break down with time and become less viscous making it like water in the engine. It will stop lubricating and cause a knocking sound. If you are not close to the changing interval and are experiencing this you should get a higher viscosity oil like 15w 50 vice 10w 30. I don't believe in the 6k mile oil change. I change mine every 3k.

I live in Dallas and it gets hot. That's why I was using the 10w-30 but now I might use the 15w50. Guys why do you suggest the 5w-30? Also what does your abreviations mean? Also my car has 145k and is an automatic. I only drive it hard on the highway

A few things to consider, you live in Hawaii, not Arizona. Hot to you is low 90's, Hot to them is 110. You don't live in a hot climate, rather a temperate humid climate. Humidity makes it feel hotter, but the engine is dealing with the actual air temp.

Higher viscosity can actually take away performance and HP from an engine with overhead cams, and tight clearances by design. You're not going to gain anything by switching up, but you are certain to lose something. Cars with higher mileage might benefit from an increase, but usually only 10w30 is recommended.

Last, oil changes at 3000 miles are a myth, especially with synthetics. You can easily change every 5000 and still have plenty of miles left before any breakdown or failing filter.

I'm not sure where you got your advice, or information, but you should really reconsider a few things...

Members are recommending 5w-30 oil because that is the preferred oil as per the owner's manual.

It strikes me that although you have very few posts, someone who has had access to the website for as long as you have should know more about the oil they use in their vehicle given the resources available.

First off I don't spend alot of time on here. I am sure someone has asked my question but due to time that I didn't have on my side, I needed a quick answer. I know about the oil I use...I just wanted another opinion. I don't know what I can do since people always are modding their cars...

Why such a viscous oil?
What is your oil temp currently?
What lab do you use to dictate such a short OCI?
What advantage will Edge bring that Mobil One won't?

thanks
