I'm an idiot and slammed my door on my indiglo gauge dimmer
Yeah stupid...I know...I hadn't mounted it anywhere yet so it was just dangling loose and I shut the door right on the dimmer control box.
The dimmer box is screwed but the gauges still work. Is there any way I can wire my gauges to be controlled by the dimmer control on the dashboard that controls the dash lights? That would be better than having a separate little box in the first place. Then I would just need a switch for green to blue, but I probably wouldn't need that because I always keep it on blue anyway. Has anybody done this and is it possible? Thanks, Jonathan |
I think the box has a special transformer in it, so you can't do without it. There might be a way have it control the brightness though.

I really don't know how many wires are connected to the dimmer box, but, dunno if this would work but try going to radio shack and finding something similar to replace the dimmer box.

there are some places that sell (maybe used to sell) just the mechanical transformers. don't know if the transformer will work on yours.
EDIT: sorry, I didn't read carefully. thought you want a new control. |
I just remember the place that sell them. seems like it will fit yours cuz it's universal.

Originally posted by MIXXMAX Personally, I would not tap into the factory dimmer switch at all whatsover, because you may harm the dash lighting circuitry in the process. The built-in transformer of the indiglos serves its purpose in making the light filaments glow and its dimness. Using the factory dimmer switch for dimness is asking for trouble. I think Autodynamic.com sells the universal transformer for indiglos for about $15.00.:D |
