Can't chirp tire on the 1-2 shift anymore!

Hey,

I recently installed a short throw shifter and new tires, and now I can't chirp my tires on the 1-2 shift:mad: Would this be due to the new tires, which I think are a little heavier and have a lot more traction, or the fact that it's a little more difficult to shift fast with the new short throw shifter? What do you think?

Thanks.

I thought a STS was supposed to make you shift faster??? :gotme:

Slipping clutch??

what kind of tires do you have??

what kind of tires did you have?

It does, but sometimes the shifter gets stock a little on the way down when I try to shift fast now. This didn't happen with the stock. I have Dayton Daytona RZ Z rated 225/50/16 tires, pretty good for 109 a pop from a local tire dealer.

Now that I think about it, maybe it's a combination of the fact that the sts shifts a lot faster than stock, so there isn't enough time for the rpms to fall to cause a chirp, it's like one continuous motion. And the fact that the new tires are prolly heavier, they look heavier anyway. When I engage 2nd gear while 1-2 redline shift, the whole car jolts with a lot of force, like it's trying to chirp, but there's something stopping it from doing so. I'm assuming that it's not good for the car

Peace.

What were your previous tires?

My Z rated ones are nearly impossible to chirp compared to my ****ty stockers.

I'm sure it's do to the better grip of the new tires. Those are pretty decent tires.

my new S-03s dont chirp. they spin but they just make a rubbing sound on the ground and give me a little bit of wheel hop. i could roast the tires going into 2nd with the stock tires but no so much as a squeek from the new ones.

isnt chirping tires bad anyways :gotme:

I saying doing large burnouts is, but getting a little chirp from the 1-2 shift is ok. BUT I am not an expert on it. I just look at it from the clutch aspect.

If the RPM's are high and you shift fast if your rpm's fall before the clutch engages, sounds like a worn or HOT clutch. But if it puts you into your seat and the tires break traction, I think the clutch has done it's job.

But, I do agree with you, I would rather have no chrip during my shifts. I want traction and no slipping.

how high do you rev it to? :D

I only chirped the 1-2 shift 3 or 4 times now.. actually, only 1 was a 'chirp'
the other times i got some pretty good wheel spin
damn goodyears

Redline baby!:D I used to have the stock toyo proxys and I didn't even have to bring it to redline on the 1-2 shift to get a huge chirp out of them. Now I only get a tiny chirp if I try really hard. Ohwell, atleast now I have much better traction.

Chirp on everybody!

I think it's bad as in if your not getting traction then your not accelerating as fast as you could. It just sounds cool.

chirping tires

it is also harder on the drive train.

i was forsaken to drive my mom's 96 auto TL over the weekend, and well, lets just say i gave that tranny hell :D

i shifting it manually pretty much all day, except on the highway...the friggin thing chirped 1st and 2nd all day long.....it was great....cept i raced my friend's teg, and he smoked me....which is usually an easy kill in my max

nismo-max500 Sep 26, 2002 04:47 PM

less chirp = more traction= better accel

only if ur car is working like it always does. and isnt slowing down. :)
