My girlfriend is one of these super-cool chickies who autocrosses and drag races her car, a '99 Civic Si with springs, strut tower braces, sway bars, some kind of open element filter intake and Pirelli P700Z's. I've run some Si's before but hers has always seemed really strong, so on the way home from her office last night we lined 'em up. Twice. First time I didn't launch. Gave her the benefit of the doubt and figured she'd screw the launch. I let the clutch out at like 1000rpm like normal and stomped on it. Pulled about 2 car lengths at the start and then she hung. Sat there off the rear corner of my car to 70mph and I shut it down. Pretty impressive (for the Si).
Next run I decided to launch it like I was really racing. Slipped the clutch at 3000 or so and kept the tires turning over just a little bit, fed clutch out until about 5000rpm and then gave it full throttle. This netted me about 3 car lengths and then another car length right after I shifted to 2nd. The maxima seems to jump hard when it hits the next gear, gaining ground. SHut this one down at 80mph with her about 4 car lengths back and slowly gaining. I think if we'd have run to 130 she'd catch back up but the Maxima tops out at 145 or so from what I've seen where as the Si tops at about 135-137.
Good running cars, both of them. It's pretty cool to do it in a silent, inconspicuous 4dr sedan though, I must say. :)

Sounds like some good runs there.

Much better than the Integra LS that I throughly smoked in the 3.2TL from 70 to 100mph. (well more like 70 to 80mph, even with a slight head start by 80mph I had passed him :) )

Si's are pretty fast when they hit their V-tec. My Ex had one, it was fast on the Interstate. I think from 100+ it would take a max, but I don't really consider passing over 100+ winning. If I beat you from 0-100, then I won. I did race a few cars up to 118 and beat them just because they kept coming for more! I'd prolly take it up to 140+ if I didn't have that govenor (sp?)! Sometimes I'm glad I have it, cause it keeps me from doing stupid shi*. Most of the time I wish it were gone, so we can have a Max caravan down the Interstate at 140. If we ever do, I'll make sure I get it on tape!

Hey Bill, give me a call when you can

I was under th eimpression that SIs weren't that fast. I've beat one with my 68 Mustang from stop light to stop light. And my mustang is a pretty sorry *** performer.

The Si is a quick, great handling little car but no match for the Max in a straight line. Sure is fun revving to 8k rpm and tearing up the twisies in it though.

Sprung... looks like the 17's took care of that wheel gap. Looks nice. Time to look for 17's. You got your's through E-bay?

I actually got them from a guy who bought them on Ebay, then wrecked his Max before he even recieved them. I am glad I got them, they look and handle better. The 16's are currently back on the car for the winter months. Sadly enough the crappy Toyos that came on them are better in foul weather than the the stock bridgestones on the 17's. Heading up to Syracuse tonight for the holidays, nothing but snow in the forcast...uhg. I'm gonna mount some high perf. snow tires on the 16's next winter.
